My sweetie & I have just gotten back from the Lewisburg, WV rally, several weeks in the upper midwest, & now from the Kalispell, MT rally. If there's anything truly remarkable I found at the two rallies, it was the consistent good cheer & helpfulness of their attendees. I was impressed. Simply no "jerks" at all --- what a blessing!

We've signed up to attend two successive rallies on the Oregon coast at the end of August, & your comments lead us to look forward to them all the more.

Peace be with you (aka "Aloha")

I am originally from the north and I've always been aware of this; just yesterday I was wondering how many times I say "thank you" (or "thank y'all") in the run of a day here... sometimes it's 20 times a day. People exercise politeness in my area to a fault (although they are just as quick to bite back if they are infringed upon).

When I see a snarky Air Forums comment, my eyes go straight to the ID tile to see where the poster is from. If it's a northern location, I often let it slide, concluding that people from certain areas have different ways of saying things that they themselves may not even realize appear snarky to others.

Me, I like clarity. . I also like polite and kind, but clarity is what I like best, if it is one or the other.

Some intend to be unkind, and/or to provoke others, but it is certainly not the common denominator here, in my opinion.

Alta & Richard...

We will be at the Nehalem Bay rally. We will be sharing freshly caught Dungeness crab. Look forward to meeting you!

Cheers,

I've just returned from two Oregon Unit Airstream rallies and there was consistent congeniality and good fellowship toward one another, a characteristic that I find to be consistent in the Airstream community outside of this forum. I can't count how many times my wife and I had drinks with new friends that we met just because we both had Airstreams.

Let's be as friendly to each other here as we are in person. Let's maintain a helpful environment that is even willing to answer questions that have been asked dozens of times before. Might be a good idea for the old-timers to just go ahead and skip threads they find boring. I imagine a lot of folks are reluctant to post because they're concerned that they will appear stupid. After all, we were all newbies once - I don't think anyone was born with innate knowledge of Airstreaming.

Aloha,

John

Aloha! But hmmm...

http://fortune.com/2016/08/18/cyberb...ternet-trolls/

Validates to me the decision 5-years ago to pull back from Facebook and other social media, this site being the lone exception... guess I do like the frequent reminders about Airstreaming.

There's an easy way to keep things nice. Do as a number of other forums do and make it mandatory that people sign up with their real names. We should all be responsible for our words and actions.

Nice ideas, welcome thoughts about keeping it "Aloha."

Something to consider as well is that this is a moderated forum and the rules of engagement are clearly expressed here: http://www.airforums.com/forums/misc...ork&page=rules

The most emphasized entry in the rules is this: "We take the "be nice" rule VERY seriously! We do not tolerate ANY rudeness."

If you feel someone has violated the letter or spirit of forum rules, please report that post instead of responding in kind or defending yourself. Just report the post by clicking the triangle with the exclamation point inside, note your reason for reporting the post, and the mods will follow up. That should help keep things on an even, cheerful, and Airstream-focused keel.

Mahalo and aloha.

Usingyour name is okay as long as the mods give one a chance to respond to false accusations either by them or another member. On a face book page I was attacked by another member and I think an administrator because I disagreed with them. That's okay. But they googled my name and info and came up with another person same name and proceeded to defame me. BS, and no way to correct the info on line because a mod was involved and the member was a long time member. Airforums would never do tnis, too much integrity, but the possibility is there. So use your own name at your own risk.

Aloha,

Seriously?! I think everyone should remember that these blogs as do all other internet blogs allow people to say whatever they choose without any accountability. This lets otherwise civil and decent people be less so without any worry of someone holding them accountable. Not to mention that I don't doubt some bloggers jump on here after "happy hour".

I have tried several times to change my screen name to my real name and my request has been ignored. My name is in my signature for all to see.
One of my pet peeves is couples that post under one made up screen name. You never know who is actually posting.
For most people this is not a blog. There are of course a few here that treat it as one with their long rambling post.

I bet 80% of main landers have no idea what "ALOHA" really means.

From Wikipedia...

Aloha (pronounced [əˈlo.hə]) in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion, and mercy.[1] Since the middle of the 19th century, it also has come to be used as an English greeting to say goodbye and hello.
