We have a 2010 Tundra with tow package. Its rated to tow 10,500 lbs. This is a 4x4 long bed regular cab work truck package.

What is the largest air stream that we can tow? We would not be towing on the road regularly, only once year or so for 600 miles.

It might be better to ask, what weight air stream is recommended at 10,500 for very frequent trips of 6 to 8 hours?

I would guess anything under 10,500 lbs, but friends are telling me to go thousands of pounds below that.

At this link it is stated that due to new S.A.E. standards the 2011 (and I'm guessing) 2010 Tundra's like mine are at 10,100lbs towing capacity.

We are interested in late 80's to 90's Airstreams in the 29 to 34 foot range, the more living space the better. It was a big surprise to me to see how much less Airstreams weight than competing travel trailers.

I tow my 1986 31' Sovereign with a 2004 Nissan Titan. Little less than 50000 miles over the last 7 years with no problems. My trailer in average trim weighs a tad less than 8000# (it has a 8600# max gross weight).

The only limiting factor is that I have to watch what I put in the pickup. With the bridal unit and me on board, I have about 400# left for "stuff" and you can reach that real fast if you bring all your tools, BBQ gear, beach tent, Mosler safe, bowling ball collection, generator...

I think your truck would safely pull anything other than the units that had slide outs (they are allegedly pretty heavy).

However, lots of Forum members swear by big honking diesels on 3/4 or 1 ton trucks for that "don't even know it's back there" feeling. Me, I like knowing it's back there.

By the way, 31' is a great length for tankage, closet space and stability.

What is your rear axle weight rating? You can pull a loaded 30'er (max 10,000#), but I suspect that you will be overloading the rear axle, unless you don't plan on carrying much of anything in the bed.

Most of the 1/2 tons rated at about 10,000#s suffer from this issue.

1984 27ft trailer, loaded down truck. No Problem. 2010 Tundra, tow package, off road package.
Newer trailers are heavier though...

Just for future reference, since you are a rookie, it is considered "bad form" to post two inquiries that are virtually identical within so short a period of time.

Lots of folks here more than willing to help but don't need the duplication.
