Smile Just bought a 1969 Airstream Sovereign

So, my guy & I just bought an airstream.

We named her Pauline.

We picked her up in Selmer, Tennessee on Buford Pusser Memorial Highway. So, naturally, we named her Pauline after Pauline Pusser, Buford's slain wife.

It gets better. The guy we bought her from...well, he has three Pusser stepkids & we think one of them lived in it. M (my guy) was cleaning her out today in Selmer & found a bunch of boxes with Pusser written all over them.

He walked in the guy's house & saw a poster that said "keep walking tall".

We are so excited. We don't know anything about restoring/renovating travel trailers other than what we have read & watched online. I'm an architect & he is an artist & builds electronics/fixes anything and everything, so maybe we will be ok! The best thing is I get deep trade discounts on anything and everything an architect could specify, so I am hoping to get some nice materials for the reno. We will be posting a lot of questions!

As far as I can tell and what I've been told the 69 model year was both a year of innovation at Airstream and also improved quality. We love our 69 and hope you do too

Indeed, welcome to the club! I have the same trailer, and quite frankly, it's my favourite of the lot. Mine is completely original, except for the bathroom, which I removed to replace the subfloor and black water tank. Have fun... Sounds like an interesting history, and you are very fortunate to both be passionate about the project. Keep us posted with your progress... Start a blog, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see your progress!

It was just a little over a month ago that my fiancé and I made the two hour drive to Ft. Myers to pick up our '68 Ambassador, Alice

Congrats and try to have fun during every moment (even when it's really hard to stay positive).

OH and NEVER say, "Well, that's the last problem we're going to find, everything else looks good!". Airstreams smell fear.

Have fun!

I am refurbishing a 67 that I wish was a 69, but you have to get what you can afford. Lots of people strip the inside and rework the interior, I have saved the biggest part of mine. There were leaks that had gone on for years that were not too bad but did damage to the flooring and some wood walls. But guys you will love the challenge of it all I assure you. And do please keep us all posted with pictures of you work, I only wish I could! See on the road in the good old USA. Many Blessings to you.

Neat old trailer! One step at a time, dont get into too much if a hurry and change things you may regret later. Have fun. Camp in it if you can.

Thanks so much for the support everyone! It was a little miracle finding this trailer for many reasons. I think starting a blog is a great idea! I will get more into the story of how we found her (or how she found us) later.

We ended up picking her up for $2000. It's been sitting in Selmer in the same place since 1998. She was packed full of junk & that took M a day to just go up there, clean out and check if she was road worthy. The seller initially wanted $2500. I don't really think he was savvy about what he had on his hands, and if he was actively listing it in Memphis or New Orleans, I know the same trailer in the same condition would go for over 5k, so we are happy about it. The seller is so great and just a down to earth good ol' boy. He even took off the old tires & replaced them for us because he said when he moved her the tires were dry rotted. His brother owns an amazing collection of classic cars and motorcycles and has a motorcycle dealership, so I'm sure he got a little help with the tires from him. It's nice to deal with people that respect the passion and love of historic americana & encourage others to restore it. I just can't wait to see her shine again!
