Here is a youTube video of a review of an 2011/12 Austin RV show. At around 6 minutes he talks about Airstream. He didn't like them.

Yup, a lot of people do not care for an Airstream. The same ones, maybe, who tell me they get 20 mpg pulling their 16,000 lb fifth wheel..... With all its "room".

Most folks unfamiliar with Airstream have sticker shock when they see the prices. Quite clearly we are somewhat unique in our taste. And if I wanted to sleep six adults, well, maybe, one of those big fifth ...... Awe, the heck with a fifth wheel, I would have kept my 44 foot moho.

That is a common response when comparing how much different RV's cost. That guy probably doesn't even own an RV. I agree with him on the Interstate. It is very small. I do not agree with his comments on the trailer, except for "the one that started it all". I totally disagree with his assessment that "there once was a place for these in the marketplace. It's pretty, but now you can get so much more for the money". That particular trailer he walked through was awesome. I loved the recliners. You get what you pay for. Even in a $200,000+ Continental Coach super luxury fifth wheel you have laminated fiberglass construction. It will delaminate in a matter of time, most likely before you get it paid for and it has depreciated to less than what you owe. It still has a rubber roof membrane which has to be replaced ever so often at $3,000+. Most sob trailers in the $50,000-60,000 range still have particle board cabinets and counters that bloat the first time they get wet. That old saying "you get what you pay for" is so true. Yes, an airstream is at least 2-3 times more than an average sob with many more bells and whistles that will break, leak, etc. is it better in the long run to buy one Airstream or 4 sob trailers? No sob trailer has that iconic shape or good handling due to the shape. Period. That being said, I am still impressed with the Continental coach fifth wheels and the Redwood fifth wheels. I hope the 45' Continental Coach across the street with 2 bedrooms, bath and a half, and 6 slide rooms, and a matching custom Freightliner tow vehicle will give me a tour. I also hope I have time to go to a dealership in Memphis that sells Redwood and Mobile Suites fifth wheels and walk through some of them. I would never buy one because I actually want a 1/2 ton truck and I have always thought the profile of a fifth wheel is just goofy/awkward looking. There is not much you can do,with that style to make it attractive. I have never cared for "four color full body paint". I prefer unpainted...
I have walked through a Winnebago View and was very impresses by how much room there is inside an RV that looks so small from the outside. I agree with the narrator on that point.

My sister, who usually has no problem giving her opinion, told me last week "Why did you buy an Airstream? They're ugly!". My mouth dropped open at her comment. How can you call an Airstream ugly? They're iconic. They look so good, you see them in commercials all the time! My other sister joined me in defending them, and she wouldn't even listen. All she kept saying is "they're ugly!".

To each his own, I guess. And you can't convince someone to like an Airstream if they don't like them.

Some people don't like anything that looks "old". They don't see retro, art deco style.

I say Why Not

What other brand will be on the road 52 years after manufacture. I would not have anything else.

What he said.
I'm in the same boat, even after an afternoon of looking at big diesel Class A's and super fine fifth wheels.
I am back at my small silver house cooking supper and feeling 110% satisfied with my rig.

The biggest reason I own an Airstream is that it lets me go on the WBCCI caravans. That is a huge plus if you are retired and can do that. A wonderful way to travel and see an area.

I never even thought of anything else when I thought of getting a RV trailer. I guess living in a 12x65 mobile home during my Navy experience colored my expectations of the SOBs.

Even among mobile home trailers there are good, better, and best, but 90% are cardboard and particle board junk. I have lived in a couple of the worst and a couple of the best.
