I would have tried that ice trick, except that my pipe had a hairline crack in it. My luck the ice would break up the dooo and then it'd ooze out the pipes all over the interstate, and officer Smedley would be waiting to write me a $500 fine (I heard that's what it actually is in NC).

So I hauled the mountain home and dug it out the hard way.

A smart man learns from his mistakes, but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. I hope you all learn from mine

I put a composting toilet in our '64 and use the tank for gray water.

Reading more of the posts, the composting toilet does away with unwanted mountain formations.

I'd say, try all the stuff out in your driveway first, familiarize yourself with the systems so you can just flip them on when needed while camping. I found this particularly important for the heating. The rally idea was brilliant too, you can learn sooo much from others that way, camping with other 'streamers for a few days. No one will ever know as little as I did when I bought our trailer, or will be as unprepared as we were our first trip. Nevertheless, it was super fun, even if the only system that worked was the power. Icebox, campground facilities for everything else, camp stove for cooking, jugs for water. We had awesome food, wine and the company of the others at Casini. I did have the interior reupholstered so the beds were comfy.
