Intro & Key West
Hi everybody...
I was on here a few years back when I lived in Maine, but now I'm in Florida and got myself set up again. I'm in the military so I did a hitch overseas and now I'm back with the regular world.
Any 'Streamers or clubs in the Jacksonville, FL area?
I'm think of hitting up Key West, any advice?
Love to all...
Hayley

Hi Hayley,
Key West is most deluxe and the Navy is kind enough to provide a great campground with two locations!
Details: U.S. Military Campgrounds and RV Parks
The Sigsbee RV park has both 3 way and 2 way hookups but is a few miles from "Old Town". Trumbo Point is dry camping (there is water and a dump station) but is walking distance to the best parts of the Island.
Bring a bike and don't miss the self guided cemetery tour!

Key West is totally fun!!!
There's a small commissary down there that was rated the best a few years ago. The campground on base is tight in the busy season but they do rotate you around. but sounds like you will be staying in something Govt provided?
The VFW there is nice,
check out the old missile sites and get a ride on the Danger schooner.
Also the "Schooner Wharf Bar" is the best in town, check out Michael McCloud, he plays there all the time.
The beach is nice at NAS, a few F-18s fly by every so often , I love the smell of jet fuel.
Have a few "Dark and Stormie's" for me, maybe even a bucket of beer.
It's a fun place, enjoy your hitch there!!
Welcome HOME, thanks for your service, Semper Fi.

I spend a week or more in Key West every year, and it's a great place to hang out and have fun. Here's link to what the locals do ....

If you're not going to be going for awhile, I highly recommend Bahia Honda SP which is about 20 minutes outside of Key West. They book up really fast, though, as do most state parks on the way down to Key West. I've stayed at, and enjoyed, Boyd's campground, as well. They have a lot of waterfront sites and the campground is in Key West within a few miles of Duval.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm going to check out both Sigsbee and Bahia Honda. I'm not particularly interested in the night life, but I am interested in natural beauty, beaches, maybe some snorkeling. I am not going until late September. Has anyone who's stayed at Sigsbee AND Bahia have any further insight? Thanks everybody!
