PIE!
We like to find local restaurants, and extra points for PIE.
Sometimes we eat in, sometimes we get Pie to Go!
Cowboy Cafe in Dubois WY, and Smiths in Clinton MO.

Oh! Pie - thank you for that. we searched high and low for the Pie lady when we went East. Finally found the Maine Blueberry shop. Looks like a big blueberry. The pie was great and made for several dinner deserts. Best blueberries are the Maine variety. The Cracker barrels were featuring Maine blueberries on pan cakes. Almost as good as pie.
Folks have mentioned railroad rides and lines that make trips along old track routes. There are also scale model and garden railroad exhibits as well as small models that are big enough to ride. Some are live steam and represent long developed machining and model making skills. We have not included these attractions, but keep seeing them on TV and continue to consider they would be interesting to see.
But the pie ..... you can't miss the pie. Travel with pie. But then there is the ice cream too. Pat

Sounds good Bill M. If I can find good fishing spots, I can get my father to go anywhere with me!
Is there a special thread listing all the fishing spots? Any fishing rally?

There are some fishing threads under the other groups sub forum - Fly fishing.
Not any specific rallys that I know about, but there has been talk. Colorado is a draw. I suspect some of the WBCCI units have fishing arms that are at least as prominent as the golfers.
Good luck. Pat

Blue Heron French Cheese Company is at the other end of town. Excellent samples, good wine selections, neat old cars, trucks and buses out front. Large RV parking area

To expand the list, many county and city parks are free, have great spots to picnic, offer a view of the local life of the community, and some encompass lesser know historic sites of local or regional nature.
Farmer Markets for the freshest produce, and in support of the local economy and the farm to table movement.
Local visitor information bureaus, for historic buildings, events, walking tours, and other low cost or free attractions in the area.
Of course, the two lane roads over the multi lane traffic clogged four lane highways and freeways, for a more relaxed travel experience, less road rage, lower blood pressure.

This is one of those threads where it's hard to remember where it started,
but I do recall mention of Pies.
Which turns my thoughts to Pie Town N M.
"The Pie o neer" restaurant to be specific.
I'll leave the choice of pies there to you.
Drive a little to the east for the Very Large Arrey, very spacey!
Highway 60 has some of the best roadside rest areas, very peaceful at night.
Cheers Richard

Cowboys yes - the "Cowboy Hall of Fame" in Oklahoma City. How many other Hall of Fame's worth a stop?
We like to look for the houses where we once lived. Boy have they changed from our memories.
Route 66 attractions are not everywhere, but the businesses of the past which still remain are interesting. Think someone mentioned this prior in the threads.
Drive-ins, the theater type - A lot have taken on a new lives, but some remain. We used to see a double feature for the princely sum of a dollar. Remember using the playground before the movie started. Even toasted marshmallows with matches in the back seat of a 55 Chevy. Nostalgic sites are cool.
Lots to see out there. Pat

Lots of great ideas listed.
I enjoy looking for and eating local food, usually only available at local ma and pa restaurants. For example pasties and white fish in the upper peninsula of Michigan.
I always travel with my mountain bike and kayak, so I am always looking for places to bike or kayak.
I am taking up disc golf, so I will now start looking for places to disc golf.
I have always been interested in building and architecture so I love to just wander around and look at homes and particularly new homes under construction to see how differently they are built compared to where we live in Virginia. I like looking at old churches. It is sometimes sad to see a beautiful old church with a slate roof that has been repaired with fiberglass shingles, totally inappropriate. Williamsport, Pa has a few.
Sometimes, I will stop and look at old cemeteries adjacent to churches.
Dan
