Exclamation How to get past the 15 yr old rule?!?

Hello all, I am new to rv'ing, and I bought a 1976 Argosy 20 trailer to live in.
I can't seem to get past the age restrictions in most rv parks around here, NM, and was wondering if there was a way to get past it. Can anyone offer some good advice?
Thanks, Dorian

Tell them it is a 96. They all look the same.

Ah, where are you in NM? I don't know of many parks around here that maintain such a restriction.

I am currently in Los Lunas, and was looking around the local area for now but want to travel around the state also.

I agree with Howie on this one. We were in Coo's Bay Oregon a few years ago and came across this same situation. The lady behind the desk asked if my trailer was 15 years old or older. I told her it was a 2003 model. Her reply was, it doesn't look like the news one. I told her it is a special addition, only a few hundred made. I went head and parked my trailer next to the $500,000 motor homes and no one new any better.

Oh, I kind of doubt that you'll have much trouble here in NM. There are very few snooty places here that turn down folks with older rigs. Or at least we haven't experienced it with our 1967 rig (yet).

I don't know, the owner there is funny looking and acts weird.

Telling the park that its an airstream and offering to send pictures can go a long way. The one time I ran into this restriction I sent a picture and they were happy.

Oh, I just noticed that you're living in your rig. That may be key to the story. Many parks limit the number of full-time residents or exclude them outright. They may be using the old-rig story as a method of exclusion.

I hear there is a real nice RV park in Angel Fire, but you need a 4x6 TV with a snowplow.

You could also boondock on BLM land.

Yes, a really big snow plow would help up here!

You know, with a whole lot of effort we might have been able to make it to Cottonwood for the 4CU rally. What we were also afraid of is leaving the rally to come back home, only to find that we couldn't even drive into the place. I love it up here in the summer, but the winters just plain suck.

I started another thread about towing with an older model (1980s) Rolls Royce. Just to see what they say when they ask how old your rig is and you tell them "I tow an Airstream with a Rolls Royce - but they are 15 years old" :0

Seriously, I hear most of these places waive the 15 year rule for Airstreams. They are just trying to keep out the riff raff .

the only people that seem to know the age of an airstream from my travels, are other airstreamers.everybody else makes comments like"do they still make those"or"is that new or old".i usually have some fun and tell them my unit is from the 30 yr plus vintage.airstreamers know the age ,length model etc.

You have got to be kidding me - isn't that illegal to deny service due to the age of a trailer?

Wow....

Ew, what an awful rule. Are you sure you want to give them money? Your Argosy probably shouldn't dirty its classy feet on their stinkin' soil.
