Always Trust Your Cape!
Great lyrics as always from a master songwriter.
Chorus:
"He's one of those who knows that life
Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold your breath
Always trust your cape"
Have a good Memorial Day weekend.

A good follow-up to "Always Trust Your Cape" . . .
Die Tryin' . . . great lyrics . . .
Chorus
"What's the use in dying if you don't die trying
If you don't die trying, what's the use?
What's the use in flying if you don't die flying
If you don't die flying, what's the use?"
Have a good Memorial Day weekend.

Saw his place at the Coumtry Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This hit me..
Kindred spirits, but he had the words
You wonder where he gits it, wielding like a sword
Glimpse of shared memory, we’re blessed he did record
Heartbeats on the road of life, a horse we both rode
I hope he is in Heaven, at peace in his abode
Trusting that in this life, his soul he never sold

One of my favorites.
My Pandora station "Guy Clark" plays it at least every few hours of listening, and that works for me.

Dublin Blues & My Favorite Picture of You
I don't know if y'all know this or not, but here's the story behind the song. Dublin Blues is the story of Guy Clark and his wife Susanna Clark break up in Dublin. GC said in an interview that he was being an a-hole and Susanna dumped him. I think that context makes the song really different. A later song, "My Favorite Picture of You," is one he wrote years later (with her, if I recall) when she was bedridden, before her death, and he was taking care of her. The picture in question is one taken on another time that Guy says he was being an a-hole (again). Apparently, they broke up repeatedly. But in the end, he took care of her while she was bedridden and dying. It's quite a love story. Once she died, he sang that song as his tribute to her. The older I get the more clear it is that "the truth" we are so sure we know about people (and on which we found our judgments) is only a thin veneer--as thin as a snapshot--of the lives people live.
If you appreciate Guy Clark, you might appreciate some of the other singer/songwriters who came out of Austin in the 70s. Townes Van Zandt is a fine storyteller who wrote some fabulous songs (Pancho and Lefty), though he was not a great performer. Jerry Jeff Walker and Ray Wylie Hubbard are basically unknown now outside of my demographic, but were great. And Steve Earle--particularly his after-he-got-clean music (like "Galway Girl")--is just fabulous. If you like Roots music, or Americana, or non-commercial country, it's worth listening to all of these folks. Don't get stuck on them, though. There's some really fine Americana coming out of a bunch of unexpected places, like Canadia, of all strange places (see "The Dead South" and their song "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company"). (No insult intended to our neighbors the Canadiaians, but 'grassy Americana from Regina?!!!)

Some of the folks you mentioned I already love, others I've never heard of, but I will. Thanks for the tips and the awesome information!
I'm the kind of person who gets carried off into a particular venue, uses it up and the moves on, but the fact is, the Guy Clark branch has lasted for a long time for me, and I'm a long way from being tired of it.
Guy Clark and company is awesome, and I'm still rolling.
Thank you brother.
Much respect!
James Morgan
