I am new to this RV life travel thing. What is the definitive word on traveling with a gun for security. I have to think moving between states with a gun may present a problem? Or is it only if you are caught???

I'm serious.

That aside, for me personally, well, I will defend my home no matter where it is parked.

Localities that wont allow this, well, I wont go.

Discussions about gun ownership make discussions about towing vehicles seem civil.

As an example, J. Morgan's statement above makes me shake my head in puzzled disbelief, but would we meet in person we'd probably get on just fine.

You are right that firearms laws differ from state to state and sometimes city to city. A very good reference is "The Travelers Guide to the Firearms Laws of the Fifty States, available here:

This basically cannot be answered (although many have tried) in a forum thread, there are many if, ands or buts involved along with interpretations of state by state laws. There are many articles about this on the "net". I would suggest reading as many of them as you can, weighing out what is said and make your mind up. BTW, have you looked into a multi state carry permit? Such Utah's? That is still not an end all be all. I won't even get into the ramifications of using deadly force. Again, educate yourself. For that I would start with something by someone like Massad Ayoob and perhaps taking a course similar to what he offers. Now I will sit back with some popcorn and watch as this thread starts to head downhill ;-)

Well, fwiw we would agree that a "smaller" tow vehicle can work well with a big Airstream...

If we agreed about everything life would be boring wouldn't it?

Me personally, I see no need for a gun, also no need for anti-sway or equalizing hitches, I enjoy my 3/4 ton diesel truck and cheapo STs on my trailer, and oddly enough I'm still alive to write about all of this.

I don't always need tools or a spare tire, but I carry them anyway....

And my Hensley hitch tows SWEET behind my 1/2 ton, even at "Interstate speeds"!

Nuvite-F offers sound advise. There are several publications that will explain the gun laws for different states. I would start with obtaining a cancealed carry license and sufficient training if you had not already. Many states offer reciprocal carry. My permit is good in 28 CC permit is recognized in 28 states.

Don't leave home without it! No not your Capitol One Card. I'm a healthy senior citizen living in Florida, I have a CCP & would never go on the road without my self defense tools. I know my limitations & fighting some thug is not on my dance card, my Glocks ( yes I have more than one ) give me & my wife great security when traveling. I use the gun Travelers Guide mentioned earlier to be aware of various state laws because " I dident know " is not a defense when dealing with authorities. I'm to young to die & to old to get the sh.t beat out of me, I would rather be judged by 12 than be carried by 6.

There are several compartments that with certain precautions and locks can be made secure within your Airstream. Lock things up that should be locked up.

Wife had a Ruger SR9C ... stove pipe; all the time at the range. We sold it.

She liked the way it felt, I never cared for it because of that issue. And I use premium ammo.

Or leave it with family. You could even ship it ahead with a licensed FFL shop to another FFL shop if you are going to Alaska via Canada.

That's too bad..... I have had 5 or 6 Ruger pistols over the years, all worked flawlessly. My favorite was a GP100 .357 with a 4" barrel. P345 is nice, too.

Ever seen a PTR-91 PDW??? I like it a LOT!!!!

Train like you will fight, fight like you were trained. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried out by 6. Get the license thing figured out, but know how/ when, and not to pull it, if so, be ready come what may. Have an insurance policy for civil case after a good shoot.

The thread doesn't need to be closed or locked. If we all agree and think about, the OP's question has been successfully answered.

The only thing that would lead to a thread meltdown, would be someone who feels obligated to let everyone who is in agreement here, know they disagree strongly. We don't need it.

Kind of like this:

A Vegan, A Crossfitter and an Atheist walk into a bar.

I only know this because they told everyone within 2 seconds of entering.
