This is the funniest thread!
Neither of us has camped since the early '80's of the 20th century, nor do we have any intention of camping in the 21st century either.
And that is exactly why we have an Interstate! So that we don't have to camp. Oh, and to take our dogs places they've never been.

Yes. If it's not digging a latrine, it's glamping. :-)

We were set up in Santa Fe and I went into the men's BR to take a shower and while in the shower stall, I overheard 2 guys talking about their wives griping about how small the bathroom was in their monster motor home. I asked if either one of them had taken their wife camping in a tent and the answer was no. I said immediately sell the motor home and buy a tent. After one weekend (with rain if possible), they will kiss the ground you walk on for another motor home. They laughed, but I doubt they went for my suggestion.

For me, i love my cottage, i make a real comfie bed, nice lawn chain, simple set of pots and pans and go. I love, love. Love camping, however it is defined. My goal is long long trips.

I would LOVE to be a "Sister on the Fly". I just need to get a smaller Airstream just for me

Glamping tip #385:
When it is cold, place your towel near a heat register.
That warm towel sure feels good after a hot shower.

The vents where the heat from the furnace enters the trailer...
Mine has 2 in the living room and 1 in the bedroom.
I discovered this trick accidentally because we put our bag of clean clothes from last weekend in front of the one in the bedroom.
That warm towel sure felt good.

Hubby is a prior service Marine and I grew up rough camping in the Everglades so I have done real camping. My 40-something back and knees cannot wait to glamp in our 1970 Globie!

This hit a sensitive nerve! Last fall, my wife and myself went to FL. We always take our dog with us on trips for exactly that reason. Can't bear the image of her thinking we abandoned her in a dog prison. She does not like or trust other dogs, but loves people. So we always stay in pet-friendly motels using coupons to get the best available rates. $89 is over budget for us. Coming back we stayed in a Motel 6 north of Nashville. As we were going to bed, my wife discovered a flee. In fact the room was infested. She could not sleep and her and the dog spent the rest of the night in the van. We got our money back with much apologies, but the experience has soured me on traveling.
I'm thinking that maybe an AS is the answer for us. No fleas to worry about! No bedbugs to worry about! No stale cigarette smoke (even though it was suppose to be a non-smoking room). No filthy shag rugs. No stains on the bed sheets (use your imagination). No crappy pillows. No 20-year-old TV sets or furniture that the homeless shelter discarded. I could go on!
Traveling with all the comforts of home would be a dream come true!

I guess it is all relative - I have never considered our camping in our trailer as glamping.
The lifestyle is not really that much different that it has been in any other trailer I have owned.
Now if we had a Prevost MH, then I think use of the term might be appropriate! Maybe!
(Just saw a nice looking one for sale at $190k locally - I could do that - but it is a 1993 and so I don't think that would really qualify! I'd need a new one, and that isn't likely to happen! )
Brian.

I think we're still camping.

Reminds me...
In the fall of '09 my wife and I took a trip to Key West. Just north of Miami, we paid a visit to the Liberty Coach showroom. I just had to have my picture taken in front of this MH after we toured it and learned the selling price. The interior looked like a Vegas Casino. All stainless steel 45' Prevost chassis. No worries about rust. Selling price... $2.2 million! They did have an older, smaller, used one that they wanted $600k for. Bargain!

There's glamping and then there's real glamping
Just doing the final black tank dump last October in London, Ont., when this monster pulled up alongside me. He was heading south for the winter from Ottawa. He was even towing a matching cargo trailer. I asked how much it was worth and the guy wouldn't say!

I always get a chuckle out of the ol "Even the person in a 2 million dollar motorhome still has to empty the holding tanks!"
Not very Glampious

People with $2 million+ motor homes probably have people for that.

Everything's relative I guess. I'm sure there are folks who have a perfectly wonderful time tent camping who think - people with $75K Airstreams have people to do that :-)

A few years ago on another trip to FL, we stopped for a break at a rest area along the Interstate. As I was stretching, a hugh Prevost-based MH rolled in and stopped. I thought at first it was a tour bus. Not the usual commonplace splashy graphics, but was all black with no markings. All windows tinted black (except front) including a long side window slightly bowed. Just an awesome MH. Looked at licence plate. Texas. That figures, some oil millionaire.
Just then 'phooosh', the hydraulic door opens. Out steps a large guy with big cowboy boots, jeans, and the biggest Stetson I've every seen. It was humungous—just like the MH. I chuckled. The expression, "All hat, no horse" did not apply this time. He certainly was not what you would call... a glamper! Glamping is for us mere plebeians.

I understand what you mean about "glamping". When I bought my AS a few years ago it was basic aside from the radio and a small LCD TV. Ironically I have worked to create a second home adding and updating. My goal determined that process- to live in it part of the year. I believe the end goal has a lot to do with what a person chooses to equip their "camp" with and even the camper they choose. Weekenders may have a very different set of provisions than a full timer. Then of course there are those who purchase the million dollar camper to use it two weeks a year on a visit to family. THAT is an economic choice that may seem absurd to some but then there are many examples of such things.
