My favorite SOB name is the " Intruder"!!

Anyone remember the questionable Norman Rockwell version of classics in the 90s? Probably collectable and rare but gross...

Some people, my wife included, like sob's for obvious reasons. I can't say I blame them. Sob's are bigger, less expensive, and have more storage/living space. Other people say they are too tall for an Airstream. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people like nostalgia. Others like modern. Too me Airstream is sorta both. Not everyone agrees. I don't think people on here are putting down or criticizing owners of sobs's. They are just expressing their views on which rv's they think are attractive or not. The people on Airforums are just birds of a feather flocking together. If I am criticizing others for owning a sob I am criticizing myself as well. I owned an sob. It was a beautiful trailer. The reason for the switch (besides I always wanted and Airstream) was that the other trailer stayed in the shop more than we camped in it. Had that not been the case I would still be camping in that other trailer owing 23 payments...

Also - I saw on the classifieds a while back an AS with some painted graphics of like wild horses and other stuff I cannot recall. Pretty intricate airbrush job as I recall

One Airstream I considered buying was lived in by a full timer named Squirrel. The front of the trailer, where the wbcci numbers normally go, had Squirrel's nest in red vinyl letters. I like the sob's with the cat on the front. I think they are Cougar brand.

Th graphics accually make them look smaller. Like stripes or lines on Big people clothes. Look at the plain jane white ones and they look big and stick out. The graphics make it (to a point) blend in to the area.

Dipping the toes ...

... and testing the waters with this tongue-in-cheek post has been fun. Thanks for all of the thoughtful responses! As may well be garnered from my user name, the T.I.C. reality fits the nom de plume, but this will be balanced by my genuine, ongoing thirst for knowledge about our soon-to-be AS.

Speaking of which, it has been fun and instructive trying to figger out all the new acronyms I've come across. There should be a dictionary on our forum! At the risk of sounding stoo-pud: SOB -- "Standard Other Brands"?

20 days still to wait before we can begin playing with our new '99 27' Safari ...

Thanks for the fun,

wry

SOB = Some Other Brand. It's used by all sorts of people in brand-specific RV clubs.

You need to trade in that AS when you get it for the new SOB on the market - hear it is all the rage - its name: "provocateur"

Those graphics are educational. I guess i had never heard of a Sandpiper before, but i know now it must be a bird by the graphics on the trailer...

In a way, since we own a vintage Airstream we get the "look". Even here there is some "differentiation" between vintage owners and newer model owners. I really don't care since it is our choice. We could have bought sob or a new Airstream, but we wanted to help preserve an historical lifestyle. We have already been offered 3 times what we paid cash for. We continue to make it "ours" with help from the forum. I don't care what others look like, how new they are, etc... They all have the same problems. It's the people we meet and the time we spend together traveling that matters.

Vintage is "over 25" years old?
