First Night Camping
Our first night at a Taj Mahal of a campground at Elephant Butte Lake, NM--50A service, cable TV, dog run for our pups, and a nice level pull-through. We learned that we forgot a bunch of things, but that did not dampen our mood. What a great start to our AS experience!

Budget - You need to change your Forums name of "Budget". That is certainly NO budget trailer!! Beautiful better describes it.

Thanks folks!
Glamping--I like it!
Whitsend--Budget M3 is my 1998 BMW 318ti--not a "real" M3 but 95% of the fun of a real M3 for less than half the cost. I use the same handle on all my car forums, and did not think my overused brain cells could remember yet another username and password

M3 -- Nice rig you got there. Enjoy it. How was camping at EB btw? Anything to do there or were you just passing through?

Thanks! We were just passing through this time, but would consider going back. In addition to the obvious draw of the lake in the middle of the desert, the tourist propaganda touts several local attractions in EB and T or C. Hatch (the self-proclaimed Chile Capital of the World) is only ~40 miles away, and Rockhound State Park is not far, so it seems there would be plenty to keep oneself occupied for a few days.

Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort. It's just outside the entrance to EBL State Park (which would be cheaper, but not nearly as "glam" ;-)

The NM Unit has rallied there.
A very nice, small-town, RV Park. Much better that the NM State Park at the lake itself. Things to see:
The hot springs resorts in T or C
Chloride, NM the Ghost town about 40 miles west
Elephant Butte Lake
Hmmm. That's about it.
Oh yes, The NM Spaceport, otherwise known as Bill Richardson's Folly

Budget M3
I was going to comment on your handle also, cuz I have an 02 BMW 330ci, probably about 2/3 the cost of an M3. Easily the best car I have ever owned, going strong with 200k miles on it. Believe me I understand keeping the same name, don't want to use up to many of those memory cells.
Your Safari looks great. Please post some interior photos when you can.

Yeah, they are great cars. My X5 4.6is has 202k miles and was just recently retired from towing service. I've been a BMW enthusiast and BMW car club member for almost 30 years now, so AS is admittedly my second passion :-)
Here ya go, Dan...a few interior shots. I still can't believe it's really ours!

A beauty! A great restoration - are you headed to the "sky dive" in Roswell?

Thanks! I'm afraid we've already got plans that run through next spring before we'll have the opportunity to take the AS on another voyage. However, we are considering the Alumafiesta event as part of the Tucson International Gem and Mineral Show here in town in early 2013.

That is one beautiful Safari! I can see why you are so proud of it. Now it is just a matter of the realignment of priorities so you can use it some more.
I am a member of the BMW car club, but mainly for the magazine.
So what is your TV now?
