Uh, "are you speaking to me?"

Reading this thread again has been fun and instructive. So many are so darned polite.

Then it came to mind that many gentle souls felt it necessary to apologize to the rude motherless sons who asked to borrow their little silver house. Eh? Who then were rude when declined. Eh?

Well yes civility is the partial reason we aren't dueling today. That's a public health hazard eliminated.

Still, however it needs to be said, "No, thank you."

I guess, as individuals, we are free to set our boundaries and tolerate their consequences.

I have a neighbor with whom I've generously, and often unknowingly, shared anything I have. He killed my Ariens lawnmower, I found my never returned Norlund axe with a broken handle in his shed, I came home one day to discover that the burning smell wafting through the neighborhood was my worm-drive Skilsaw, and... he doesn't know why my Snap-on torque wrench doesn't click anymore. The list goes on...

Even tho he gave me a set of keys to his new Tacoma, I coldly said NO, with no explanation, when he asked if he could borrow the Airstream.

I gifted him a new Harbor Freight axe, re-handled, and hid mine. I've never used his truck.

We're still “walk to the end of the earth for each other” friends.

Conspicuously posted in my shop, this always gets a chuckle.

Yes, no, no, no, NFW... There, that's better.

-Red, stopping at loaning out tools, and then, only cheap ones...
Somebody ought to clean these windows. There is a tremendous buildup of gook all over them...

nope, never happen. If someone was a good enough friend that they had the right to ask I would give them the money for a hotel or an actual rental RV if they were in a financial bind.

My youngest son, the original owner, can borrow the family AS anytime he has full insurance on it. The rest of the immediate family...I'd have to think about that idea, and it's probably "...only if I come along to tow and operate it..."

We took my wife's 90 year old father visiting from the UK on a five day road trip to visit three of his granddaughters.

We learned that our trailer is just fine for the two of us, but an older third guest was a challenge.

We had the "aha" moment and have decided this is a trailer build for two.

The second owner will do as they please, but no loaning out for me, period.

It's a careless question to ask. You wouldn't ask a friend to borrow his hatteras. No one has asked me to borrow the airstream, and if the time does come, I'll try real hard not to laugh

It's such a weird question!!

I loaned my trailer to my son several months ago, I ended up having to fix some things that I knew were marginal before I loaned the trailer...

But I will loan it again if the need arrises.

I have a small handull of people in "my circle of trust" (think Robert Deniro here) but mostly just 2 friends that I would loan it to. But I know that they value things (even other people's) but that's it!

My ex-wife's husband (of all of 4 days at the time) asked me if they could borrow my Suburban for a 1200 mile trip last Summer. Ummm...NO!!! I wouldn't even let you borrow my vehicle for a Home Depot trip.

People get way too presumptive about "borrowing" things...the whole "well, you aren't using it right now. so, why can't I?"
All that is gold does not always glitter...those who wander not always are lost....

There are three people my husband and I put on an approved list of friends/family that we would consider loaning our Airstream to. One of which saw our trailer and loved it. Then, instead of asking, he went out and bought his own.

We loved his response and realize now that he pretty much ruined it for the other two. You want to travel in an Airstream? Me too. That's why I bought one.

For anyone else that may ever ask, I would simply laugh. And laugh. Then reply with, "Oh. You're serious?"

Uh, no.

If I only had a dollar for every time I got distracted, I wish I had a puppy.
