Found a nice deal on an Ice Maker and wondered if others use them, what they think of them, if they have had difficulties with operating, upkeep, or storage. Certainly appreciate the wisdom of those who travel frequently or on longer hauls.
We got an Igloo brand ice maker. Basically a virtually identical unit as found in the Tommy Bahama trailers. It cost us $89 at Target, and makes all the ice we need.

We bought one from Sam's Club. We use it when we are in one place for awhile and it will make ice all day and night. We generally plug it in outside if we can keep it in the shade. We transfer the ice to a cooler rather than the freezer since it's not totally "dry" and freezes into a block in the freezer. Ours will make a new bunch of ice cubes about every 9 minutes so you have to be okay with the noise of the ice falling into the tray, especially at night if you leave it on. They are very handy.
