Can a polished trailer cause a fire???

OT -- The Olympic torch was lighted today inside a mirrored reflector using only the sun's rays.

As I stated earlier, the inside surface of my door that has the with-in a door trailers designs of the early 60's trailers have a concave surface and (if polished and left open) can concentrate the sunlight into a hot line on the ground. This is capable of melting the plastic based mats. If there is a material with a low ignition temperature, I guess it could start a fire. I know of no other concave surfaces on an Airstream. Shinny ones do present some annoyance to other drivers.

I was checking into a campground in AZ last year and the owner told me that he wouldn't register anyone with a polished Airstream. He said that he'd had too many complaints from other campers annoyed by the glare into their trailers! I'd heard rules about "old" trailers being rejected but this was a first.

While we're discussing AirToasters, what about those 18 wheelers that say "England" on the back of the trailer along with a very shiny surface. If the sun is in back of them, it is hard to see. However, it has not melted me or my truck yet.

Hey guys! Hope you're well! I read this post a few weeks ago when I was suspicious about a line of burnt woodchips near my Airstream. Well, today my 12 year old neighbor came running to our house yelling fire! There was a square shaped fire burn into the woodchips that was caused from a reflection of the inside of the door that was left open (not the main door, just the smaller one that opens to allow air through the screen). Someone did say that vintage trailer doors can do this and they were right! The reflection is so strong and hot from the inside of that door it easily burned the ground. Pebbles on the ground instead of woodchips would solve this problem but just be cautious if you have a vintage Airstream that yes they can cause fire on the ground from the reflections. We have a beautiful '59 Tradewind overlander btw! Picture attached!!
