Hi Mldun. Sounds like we're nearly neighbors! We live mid island on AI, near Peter's Point. Hope to bump into you one day. Regards, Joe

We enjoyed ft clinch and have another reservation coming up there. It has two separate camping areas about a mile or so apart. The ocean sites are unshaded. That may be good or bad depending on time of year and your tolerance for direct Florida sun. In the other section most sites are shaded.

Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort is right on the beach of St. Augustine. This, I believe, is the only RV resort in the area that's right on the beach with full hookups. Most of the sites are around 50 ft. long x 20 ft. wide. Many have decks for picnics, etc. We go there yearly for a couple weeks in April for spring break. Love it!! Blank Template

I have to second or third Anastatia. Group of us going there over Halloween weekend to take a ghost tour of St Augustine.
Lots to do. Great location.

Do any of you go to Disney Fort Wilderness? Would love to have some type of rally there.

FL camping

We spent part of the winter roaming around the panhandle and south to Sarasota and then east across the state to the coastline and then north.
In the Panhandle area, our favorites include: Mystic Springs Cove CG (Airstream Park)@ McDavid, FL. Ft. Pickens National Park CG at Gulf Breeze, FL. Fred Gannon/Rocky Bayou SP @ Niceville, FL. Near Panama City, we loved St. Andrews SP. Near the east coast, we liked Manatee Springs SP which is near Chiefland, FL. Near St. Augustine, we liked Indian River Campground on Hwy 207. When we were near St. Augustine there was a big motor cycle rally going on and all of the campgrounds were full of bikers!
This one was close and near to historic sites of Ft. Matanzas and Castillos de San Marcos. Our favorite near Jacksonville was a small city park called Huguenot Memorial City Park Campground. No hook ups but a beautiful site right on the St. John's River where we could watch the large boats and tugs on the water. Really near the coastal beaches. Little Talbot was near but the sites are small and there is MUCH vegetation overhead and all around making parking a painful experience.
Ping us if you need more info.

There are also some other Airstream parks in Florida. Have fun exploring! Let us know what your favorites are after your trip.

Like Greg said...Ft. Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach is a great place to spend a couple of days, and its off one of the first I-95 exits after to cross into Florida. They have two campgrounds....a completely sun-exposed one near the beach (which I avoid), and a more rustic one in an old dune system underneath Spanish moss- covered live oaks. Its a great walk from that campground along the beaches of the St. Marys River to the Atlantic Ocean beaches...full of shark teeth, a long pier for fishing, etc. And downtown Fernandina Beach has been renovated over the past 20 years to where its worth walking around...nice ice cream shops, bars, restaurants etc. I'll be there in about 4 weeks. Safe travel. jon

One more vote for Fort Clinch as a great spot with two varied camping environments and plenty of small town things to do.

Here is the "river" campground:

We have stayed several times at Anastasia SP. In our opinion the sites listed in loop "COQU" are the best location. The staff is one of the friendliest in the FL SP's.

We stayed at Gamble Rogers last Dec for one night on our way to the FL Keys. The campground is small and limited to shorter RV's. Just after we pulled into the site the "host" came over and said we would need to be straighter in the site. Soon after one of the younger rangers came by and said the same. After some discussion I moved the trailer. The front stabilizer bars moved less than 6" as we were by no means angled in the site. This seemed to satisfy the ranger. Later the senior ranger came by and explained the rules. Farther into the campground a large 5th wheel was parked at an extreme angle in order to avoid blocking the drive. At the time we had a weeks reservation for May of this year, which we cancelled due to our experience.

Here is a Tampa Bay Times article I stumbled on today thy ranks Florida's top 10 beachfront camp grounds. My favorite is Grayton Beach State Park, though I have never camped there, I live only 4 miles away on the Bay. GBSP has Western Lake, one of 15 Glogally rare Coastal Dune lakes and one of Dr Beach's former picks as the World's most beautiful beaches. But then you did ask for Atlantic side camp grounds😎
