Bunk Bed

I see there is a FC 23D available with a bunk bed. The shorter length seems appealing as I'm a newbie. I was interested if there is anyone who happens to have this model (or any model with bunk bed) and could share pros and cons about the bunk bed offering?

Hello! We are in Strasburg- so close! Welcome aboard.

We have a vintage Airstream- not a new one with factory bunks such as you are requesting info on- but I did remodel the interior to include bunk beds for our girls. It saves a lot of floor space and it is very nice for each girl to have her own, full-time lounging/sleeping space to call her very own. Certainly different than having to set up a dinette bed or the like each evening.

I see that bunk model as a compact trailer with a good place for three kids to have space in the back of their own. While mom and dad use the front dinette to sleep, stay up late or get up early, lounge and prepare meals. When they've grown and gone from home, you have the rear bed and a handy bunk for storage.

So it's a compact, usable family Airstream if that's what you need.

It's just my wife and me and a grandson from time to time. I guess I was thinking that the bunk would work for the grandson. Is the rear bed big enough for two adults? I have not seen this model in person yet.

Also does anyone know if the bunk is available in any 25' models?

The bedroom bunk would not work in the current 25's because of the pano window and storage lockers above. They both (front or rear bed) do have a dinette table that can be lowered to a bed, as well as a side lounge that pulls out to a small bed.

The 23 bunk model has a very narrow double bed with the bunk above.

Yes! My brother used to live in Hanover- now he moved to Gettysburg. We were originally from York, so we are very familiar with the area! Hanover has some great train shops and of course the Famous Hot Weiners!

Our trailer is only 17'. The bunkbeds seemed the perfect solution. We took out the closet and moved around parts of the kitchen to accommodate the beds. I never hang clothes up when I cam camping anyway- no need for a closet!

I think I have the model you're talking about. Mine is a 23' 2014 Flying Cloud with a bunk bed over the regular bed. We bought that model because we have 8 grandchildren, and have some of them along on our trips from time to time. The grandchildren love the bunk bed, of course, but we have gotten more use out of it on trips of our own to hold all sorts of loose stuff, from jackets to fishing gear to bows and arrows. It has a weight limit of 150#, so not everyone could, or would want to sleep in it. It is so versatile that I would really miss it if it weren't there. The regular bed in this model is snug for two people and kind of hard to make up, but I thought it was a good tradeoff for more room up front. I'm not sure my wife would always agree, and might prefer the full bed, but of course then we wouldn't have the bunk bed. 23' is a good length for us because it is about the longest trailer that will fit in many of the national and state park campgrounds in the areas we commonly go to.

There you go, customize as you need it. We tore the dinette table and seating out of ours for a living room.
