1) no - you can NOT borrow my Airstream

I have electricity. I used to have a French Press, but after I broke the glass twice I started making coffee in quart canning jars. I get Cameron's Organic French Roast coffee beans from Amazon (free shipping), grind them and put 3.5 heaping tablespoons of coffee in the quart canning jar with a pinch of salt. That gets rid of any bitterness. Poor in the almost boiling water, swirl it around and let it sit for about 4 minutes like a French press. Pour this into another quart canning jar through a fine strainer. Add more boiling water to the giant enamel cup and voila!

I have the mini-Keurig in my trailer and a Breville at home...so K-Cups are interchangeable for both locations. IF I am boon docking and don't have 110V I will actually brew instant (oh, horrors!) coffee. It is a terrific reminder of earlier periods in my life where that was the only option and how lucky I am today!

Best Coffee
Try the best coffee with a Keurig, single cup. Takes up little space and brews a cup quickly. We like the Newmens Special Blend, available at Sams for $38. Not much to clean up.

Now that is an Airstream lifestyle truism! TV debate also...

I, honestly, don't mean to preach, but Keurig, and others like it, are an environmental nightmare. The cups are almost impossible to recycle and end up in landfill. At current consumption rates, there are enough cups thrown away every seven days to circumnavigate the globe.
That's a lot of junk. Keurig acknowledges this problem and state that they are searching for a more sustainable solution but so far they haven't found one.
In my mind, we've got plenty more sustainable solutions already. They're called drip coffee, French presses, Aeropress machines.
I am also an unapologetic coffee geek and quite apart from the environmental impact, I also think these machines make terrible coffee. The production cycle is such that pods often stay stored for several months before being sold. That means old, stale coffee. Thanks, but no thanks.
Yes, I am an old hippy. Yes, I am a tree hugger. But I do think that as campers, regardless where we stand on some of these issues, the thing that connects us is that all of us enjoy getting closer to nature. Clean, unspoiled nature.
Is it really worth 30 seconds of convenience to throw yet another piece of plastic away?

coffee in the oven
Actually, the Capresso cone filter coffee maker travels on its side in the oven. Getting it set up is one of the first things we do - it sits on top of the stove top cover. If using the stove, it goes on the dinette table. If we don't have 120v service, we simply boil water on top of the stove and pour it through the removable filter holder and into the caraffe. The result is the same delicious coffee. Starbucks beans, whole at home, pre-ground for travel - Gold Coast or Italian Roast.

X4 Chemex all the way... at home and in the AS. I use a small inverter for the bean grinder.

Another Keurig fan saying that it is much more effecient and "green" to use a single cup of coffee generation rather than wasting all that water and energy to brew a whole pot of coffee. I am more green with my Kuerig than you are in Canada with your french press. I also like coal to heat my coffee when I have no electricity.

I have to keep Googling all these brand names; it's because I'm a foreigner! I didn't know that a "French Press" was the same as a "Cafetiere" or what a "Chemex" was, but my education is being enhanced reading these pages and I do know now!

I'm with crusty! Single cup filter. Go into Blue Bottle Coffee shop and what do you get: single cup filter drip. YAY! Go Green! (you can get reusable filters, too)

Oh, lets bring the......
.....Campfire controversy to the Coffee debate.
The used Chemex filter sure smells great when tossed into the hot coals.

Actually, used coffee grounds, dried and compressed, make great firelogs. We get them at Home Hardware up here.

Cup o' joe - anyone? How 'bout a pot?
What a fun thread and thanks to this conversation I'll give the Chemex a try if only to sort out the grounds conveniently.

Chemex in action this AM at Chula Vista KOA. All we need is in the picture besides cup and beans.

We use the Starbucks Via packets when camping. I stock up on them at Costco. We used to use a glass, then stainless french press - but I prefer the Vias because they are neater and take up much less room than a single-task item like a press.

Another vote for Starbucks Via. Easy and although a little pricey the quality is there. I would rather fish then wait for my coffee to be ready.
