Great article sent out by the "Mother Ship" - I think we all fall into this category...

JFSCHECK,

I agree. We went from over 30 years of tent camping to Airstreaming and I have to say that it's hard to say you're camping when using an Airstream, at least to my eyes. Having said that, there's no way I feel like turning back the clock and going back to a tent!

Yes, most of those characteristics fit us, and we're not afraid to admit it.

That said, we look at the new Interstates and shake our heads. We are much more a camper van than the new ones with two flat screen tv's, in-dash electronics, motorized steps, bed, etc. Not for us.

We love the luxurious, comparative simplicity of our little buggy.

We boondock mos t of the time, carry our own water, deal with sewage etc, and charge batteries by solar.
I don't consider myself in that category and feel it is sort of status seeking.
I prefer to think of myself as a wimpy camper

Me, too. It's hardly camping when you sleep in a proper bed and use all of your Airstream's facilities. I wouldn't go back to tents, that's for sure.

Let's see...
1 - if belgian waffles count, guilty.
2 - so, so guilty.
3 through 5 - well DUH, of course.

Really, the only one I'm a little iffy about is #8. If I woke up smelling like soap, I wouldn't need a shower in the morning, and I'm always the one who MAKES the coffee, so I have to do some stumbling around before it smells like coffee.

I dont think there is anything particularly noble about being uncomfortable. I bet native americans didn't sleep on rocks. I believe camping is a state of mind.

- if it starts sprinkling and you cover yourself and run back to your camper.. ur a glamper
- if you just couldn't bring yourself to evacuating in a hole.. ur a glamper
- If you have to get into the heat of the day before you are awake and motivated to do anything.. ur a glamper
- if you think campgrounds with concrete pads and no trees are "nice".. ur a glamper
etc, etc..

Actually the term , which i have encountered before, sounds like something dreamed up by a marketing department trying to destroy my hard won trailer trash image.

If it is, then you are a Glamper. Nothing wrong with it, you are just not Lewis and Clark.

I do love the groan over the campground that is heard from the tent people when it starts to rain. All I have to do is lower a window or two & close a vent.

We started in tents when youngsters, VW campers in mid-life, and Airstream in retirement.

I like the comparative luxury, but sure enjoyed the wilderness hiking and canoeing; can't say it was that uncomfortable at all. The VW's took us to places we probably wouldn't venture with the Airstream. But the freedom of retirement is a great luxury in itself, if you use it, and the Airstream makes it pleasurable.

One thing the term "glamper" brings to mind, which we are not and don't aspire to be, is high-maintenance.

Doug does not shave every day anymore. I do not put on full makeup.

I guess so. We eat in restaurants and go shopping at the mall. The RV park has a pool, hot tub, and masseuse...not much camping going on here. The Airstream is an alternative to staying a hotel or at someone's house.
