Anyone Live in an RV Community: House with Attached RV Garage

Does anyone live in an RV Community that has a smallish house with an attached RV and car garage?

What are the pros and cons.

Travelers' Rest om Dade FL has a section devoted to double wides, with RV storage and shed. You have to buy the doublewide. Travelers' Rest also has a trailer area and a cabana area. It is no longer Airstreams only.

I've seen a really nice looking place in Arizona that's advertised in Motorhome magazine. Can't remember the name of it, and just tried to google it and can't find it.

The lots have cute adobe houses on them, with big covered carports for your RV. And, by California standards, the places were dirt cheap!

I would consider something like that. Nothing too big and no yard work. Just want a place to hold up between trips. The question is how much are the HOA fees, taxes, vehicle registration, heath insurance in AZ, another subject completely. We would probably be gone all summer long to escape the heat in that area.

Not crazy about Florida, too far south and east to get to the West which we seem to favor.

It's not an "RV Community," per-se, but the town of Sequim, WA has lots of homes with large RV garages either attached or next to the home. Lots of folks retiring there, some of whom do the RV garage thing.

Kelvin, we have been spending winter months at Voyager RV Resort near Tucson, AZ. They have rv sites for rent, as well park models, stick built and prefab homes for sale, some for rent. Some of the new prefabs can be built with a metal RV canopy attached as well as a carport.

Nice 55+ resort with loads of amenities and a great sense of community, like living in a small town where everyone is friendly with as much activity and social life as you would like.

The prefab houses are very spacious. You buy the house and rent the lot from them. We just rent an RV space next the activity area for the winter months and have the time of our lives with good friends. About $3000 for six months and come and go as we want. A great base camp that is hard to leave at times.

There are others similar to this, but this is a good one and a value for what you get.

Kevin I'll be watching this with interest. We are getting close to looking in this direction. Anyone know of similar properties located on the water? Thanks!

I found a link to a development in TN

RV Homes – The Gardens

Not sure we can afford to maintain a house, taxes etc and travel most of the year.

For us its either sell the house to get from underneath mortgage, property taxes, utilities, maintenance costs to hit the road or stay in the house and only take shorter trips.

What would be nice is to find a place during the winters to rent a furnished park model with covered RV storage next to the unit with hookups so if our daughter visited she could sleep in the Airstream. Then head out for the rest of the year.

Lake living secret.

TAHI is on the shore of Lake Sam Rayburn - the largest lake entirely in Texas. Rayburn is consistently in the top ten bass lakes in the US.

Yearly assessments are only 400 dollars per year. This includes water, sewer, trash, taxes, roads, and common areas.

PM me or follow the link at the bottom of the page.

All the WBCCI websites I tried to bring up failed links. Are they really viable businesses?

There is an Airstream only park in Hillsboro, TX with all types of lots from similar to a state park campsite all the way up to a house with attached RV garage.
I'm sure Virginia Highland Javens Airstream Park, Top of Georgia Airstream Park, and Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne offer similar amenities.
Not sure of HOAs, but some advertise $1,200 per year. It probably varies depending on how nice your spot is/what amenities your spot has.
The businesses, or WBCCI, apparently don't keep their websites updated. You may have to find a phone number and call them.

Our plan is to find a small house to rent with space to park the Airstream out in the country perhaps in Tennessee so that we can minimize our non traveling costs, eliminate storage costs and get out from underneath all that other stuff as well.

We are currently doing the apartment thing, having sold the house two years ago. We may look for an apt closer to our AS storage when we go from two bedrooms to one upon retirement prior to deciding where in the country we want to establish as home base.
