Well, its nice to see that although not many DINKs, many other types of nice and friendly people. My wife says I am not friendly, and I have to agree. I am kinda anti-social. But I'm working on it.

I don't miss the boat one bit. They say the two happiest days in a boat owner's life are the day he buys the boat, and the day he sells the boat. Certainly true in my case.

I enjoyed 15 years of boating, but I'm ready for a new adventure.

Come on now he is only one mouth to feed. He was 10 months old on his way to three months in Alaska. He loves to travel and meet lots of people but he is bit nervous during the actual driving part.




Hager our last fur kid loved the driving part of the trip. He would spend hours looking over my shoulder making sure I was driving properly.



He would let me know if something didn't look right.

My husband and I are DINKS. No kids still working and get away every weekend we can. We will retire in 15 years. For now we just take very long road trips.

My wife and I are DINKS. Mid 50's and still working, but planning an 18 month sabbatical from our careers to go out and do those things we enjoy now, rather than wait until retirement. Would hate to be those who wait until it is too late and are unable to do the things they love once they have the time.
We will be packing up our "Shiny House" with bikes, golf clubs and hiking boots later this Summer to circle the US in search of new adventures! Please let us know if there is anyone out there sharing the same interests

We are DINKS. 39/35. I work from home and the wife is part time. We get lots of long weekends away within a few hours of Portland and we make the odd long trip as vacation time allows... Building up to the retirement dream

Okay, so many DINKs have a situation where they have somewhere to be Mon-Fri 8-5 (some get to work out of their Airstreams!). So this leaves weekends and the 2-3 weeks vacation as the only possible time to use the Airstream until we retire (jealous!!!).

So in making our decision to jump into Airstreaming, I had a requirement - I had to be able to use the Airstream every single weekend. And taking out of storage and driving somewhere every weekend seemed impractical. So I would have to store it somewhere were I could use it. Which narrowed my choices considerably.

What did you guys do?

My wife and I decided to purchase an RV lot at an RV resort. So it doubles as an open air storage place but it is ready every Friday evening to receive us and we can spend the weekend without moving it. And if we want to, we can take it out and go somewhere.

We park ours on our driveway along side our house. When we bought our house this was a consideration!

We are never more that 2 hours out from being able to pack up and go. We often decide Thursday lunch time to go somewhere for the weekend as I can work from the trailer thanks to the cell phone booster tech and big data plan!

I can't imagine have the Airstream offsite and having to go get it and load up etc.... our lifestyle is a little too spontaneous for that!

I guess we are DINKs even though I never heard the term before now.
We had a daughter graduate from nursing school yesterday.
At 47 and 51 kids are grown and gone.
We used to talk about getting a trailer when we retire.
One day almost 6 years ago I asked, "Why wait?" and said, " Let's do it now."
We take our trailer on 20-something trips per year including 3-4 rallies and 4-5 long holiday weekends and many weekend warrior Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon trips.

I would LOVE to be able to use the AS every weekend. Unfortunately, we travel a lot, so it tends to be 1-2 times per month.

We live in a high-rise condo in a downtown, urban-ish area (i.e., minimal street parking) so storage was a must. Originally, it was at the local AS dealer but the timing was a bit restrictive. Now it's at a nice storage facility about 15 mi away (relatively close for SoCA) and we have 24 hour access to it.

Sometimes on the weekend, if the partner is otherwise busy, I'll go and tinker in the AS for the day.

Would love FCStreamer's set-up. Would be ecstatic to find a house with a big enough backyard to have the AS set-up full-time. But, a bit of a pipe dream in this neck of the woods :-(

Yes, we moved a year ago to downtown Tampa, oddly enough right across our boat. I couldn't even keep my F150 in my condo parking, it was too big and I had to park it farther away. It's the compromises of urban living.

A 90 minute drive is not trivial but its very doable. I could even go during the day but will likely limit it to weekends. But arriving Friday at 9pm I wanted to arrive to a setup camp. We got lucky with River Ranch. It's like the Fort Wilderness campground, only cheaper. I am already planning my first trip to Bluewater Key in Key West, but that will likely be early next year.

I guess I'm a SINK. I have an "ex" but compared to most ex-husband stories - mine didn't have a double dose of all seven deadly sins; so I got away pretty easily. My sister, PrudencePB was my first "kid" (but I thought mom had just finally broken down and gotten me a white puppy for the longest time). She grew up fine in spite of me and she became a mom of two boys and a girl. If I had it to do over.... I'd still say I respect good parenting too much to aspire to do it myself.

I really enjoy seeing the families that go out Airstreaming (or camping in an SOB). That kind of family time is an investment of incalculable value. Anyone who has a family and is thinking about getting a camper for retirement or for when the kids are a little older - the time is now! Even if life turns bad, thru illness, divorce, a family tragedy or whatever, the memories of happier times are better than a suit of armor for kids and adults alike. Good memories of my early years are scarce - but a picnic basket was a feature in many of them. Our camping was mainly in a teepee in the back yard. We kids harvested the saplings, but my mom - in a rather atypical gesture - sewed many yards of plastic into a beautiful teepee skin, and let us stay out there all summer, even sleeping outside. I think every kid in the neighborhood brought marshmallows and the whole neighborhood must have smelled of burned sugar for the summer. Amazing isn't it that back then 8 year olds with an unsupervised campfire wasn't a big deal. Of course we drank from the green garden hose too, and it was about 3 feet from said campfire. Last I checked, none of us have died yet.

And every kid had a bicycle - and not one wore a helmet or even a hat.

I'm trying to get my head around being retired. I'll be needing a rally real soon. 25 days and counting. Whoa.

DINKs here with three years left before retirement. Our trailer fits in the driveway, where everyone can admire it (no gates or even bushes to protect it). We have met a ton of our neighbors since we got it a few months ago. ��

And sometimes when we can't get away, we camp in our driveway.

After reading all the clever descriptors of fellow 'Streamers, I believe hubs and I are "Drinks". Dual retirement income no kids. What with working, the caring for parents, etc., only now have we been able to start traveling for longer periods. I always say we got the AS so we could take our dogs with us.

Great point! We had our boat for 15 years and took all our vacations on it, partly because we could bring our dog with us. We will be brining him along on our new adventure for as long as he can, but having an AS does provide that bonus perk!

No children was one of the very few things I planned about my entire life.
