Troop 186 Greater Cleveland Council.

Many thanks to the Scouters and merit badge counslers who gave us their time and skills, I fondly remember many by name.

William Mitchell SM
Some of the ASM's and committee members:
H. R. Baldy Wallace
Earl and Rita Hamilton
Richard Down
Rev. A. O. Kean sponsoring church
and from the council Burt Porterfield, John Bryant
and my Dad, J. M. Croyle

Later as a young adult, I was able to return to 186 and serve as SM for several more years.

Camps Belden, Beaumont, Clendening, our summer camp was Firelands and so many more.

Best regards to all Scouts and Scouters.

Some of my first campouts with my son was at Firelands! Still remember doing a Camp Alaska at Beaumount. I was in pain all night sleeping on the ground in snow. I woke up in the morning and dug down to find an old rust barbwire fence under my sleeping bag.

Did I mention I now have an Airstream?

IIRC John Goebel (SP) was the Camp Master / Ranger at Firelands. As a Scout I remember going into the dining hall and it was H U G E, tall ceiling, big beams etc. As a SM taking the Troop back, ceiling was a lot closer and the beams shrank quite a bit.

Belden was our closest and frequesnt destination. The Troop made the entrance sign in honor of one of our ASM's and if you hiked the Belden Trail, thank Troop 186 for blazing it. My Dad got us stainless steel markers and we nailed em up. We also had Klondike Derby's and Camporee's out at Belden. Good times.

I absolutely owe my interest in camping, outdoor cooking (seen my cardboard box oven thread?) and above all campfire time to my BSA adventures.

Here in Canada the highest award for Boy Scouts is the Chief Scout Award. I have both the Chief Scout Award and the Queen Venture Award (even higher than Chief Scout).

I have been to two Jamborees - 1983 in Alberta, Canada (I was only 12 and visiting) and in 1987 is Australia.
