An indelicate question

Wife prefers the AS facilities, especially since the tankless water heater went in so no more Navy showers...I got out of that outfit in 1976!

I have a Sewer Solution system and plenty of utility water hoses, so no issue clearing tanks when parked and hooked up.

Best part of it is on the road, when someone needs a potty break, its a simple matter of pulling off into a convenient rest area, walking back, and using a known clean facility we tow behind us.

I always make sure the grey tank is empty, the black tank as empty as possible, the fresh tank is at around 30-50% on the road, and the batteries are hot so the water pump works.

We usually have to dump the black tank every 3-4 days so its not been an issue. We usually stay at KOA, so hookups are not an issue.

Why not use it if you've got it?

Still looking....however one thing we've gotten in the habit to do at campgrounds is to take sanitizer wipes and "clean the rim" before sitting down to read.

I'm a bit late to this party. To each his or her own so I can only report on the CG facilities at which we've stayed. The Virgin River Canyon CG is BLM managed and is sorta clean but only has a toilet and sink. Snow Canyon, UT has very nice facilities and has four solar heated showers that are surprisingly warm - just short of being hot. Quail Creek just outside of Hurricane, UT has a very clean bathroom managed by a very conscientious CG host couple - Jamie and Kevin. The bathrooms at Zion NP are very clean as would be expected in a NP.

I've heard the chances of getting germs are greater from grabbing a door handle than sitting bare butt on a toilet; I would imagine most everyone's bottom is one the cleaner parts of one's body. We've been staying in parks where there's only the shared CG dump or none at all, so we try to use the CG facilities as much as possible - me more than the wife. One month out and I have yet to do conduct #2 business in our AS. I'm not one to brag but what was it that Jack Palance's character said to Billy Crystal's in City Slickers? Enuff said.

Well, this has been an interesting read, to say the least. I'm not normally so interested in other people's bathroom habits.

Our first camping trailer had no bathroom. Our second was a cute little Scotty with a marine toilet in a closet. You had to back in; there was no room to turn around, and the head room was almost 5 feet.

Our third was a '62 Bambi. You all know what that one was like. Wow, a real bathroom, and a fridge that MADE ice !!!! We were in camper heaven ! We never have to use a public toilet again.

Over the years our campers have gotten bigger, and so have their bathrooms. We have a china throne, 6 gallons of piping hot water, room to step out of the shower and dry off. AND wifey doesn't point and laugh or puke when she sees me naked.

WHY would I go any place else?

I almost use my Airstream facilities exclusively. They work just fine so why not?

Sometimes the campground showers are bigger, have better water pressure, and the hot water lasts longer.
If the campground facilities are substandard I will do everything in the trailer.

When I 'have to'... then I make an "az gasket" by laying TP on the top of the toilet seat when I am 'in a bind' and don't have any Lysol spray or similar.

We also once carried a shower mat which kept our feet from contacting the shower floor area... I have even worn my dirty socks into the shower to keep my feet from direct contact... at one time I wore my boots in because it was safer... just gotta do what you have to..when you have to.

With our tankess hot water heater and full hookups, hot showers last as long as I have propane...and I always know who's been in my shower before me...

Never had that much hot water in a campground rest room, BTW.

Just have to keep the Sewer Solution properly connected and the gray tank valve open if we are there for a full shower series...we all need long hot showers in cold weather just to keep moving...

When you gotta go, you gotta go. Sometimes it's raining or cold or you simply can't hold it any longer. That's why they're "self-contained" campers.

I always use the FaN's water closet.

Was camping at my favourite spot in the Cascades a couple of years ago I never left the w/c. I put my back out trying to hoist the hitch into the truck cab, and just could not get comfortable on the dinette and/or couch seating, or bed.

The only place where my back did not spasm was sittiing on the loo (with lid down).

So, spent most of the day reading in that position, and even took a little nap. I started to feel quite comfortable and safe there. Very cozy.
