Airstreams at Burning Man

We left early from Burning Man so we could do the long weekend in Seattle at Bumbershoot.

What a time we had. We stayed in the Airstream Camp with maybe 20 other Airstreamers. I met all of the people I've been talking on the Burning Man Planning Thread and we had a ball. Special thanks to Perry, Bam Gary, Don, Holly, Dan and everybody else.

There were lots of other Airstreams there but not in our camp. I didn't count but my guess would be 30. Airstreams were very well represented.

Burning Man, what can I say. Non-stop. Music, Booze, Drugs, Costumes, Bikes, Nudity, Amazing structures, Dust and more dust, It wuz awesome.

I was at the Skinny Kitty one day listening to the music and gabbing and I got up and left and forgot my cell phone there. When I discoveed It missing I was sure it was gone. I pedaled back to the Skinny Kitty (Two hours had passed) and some guy handed me the phone asking me if I was Dan. That act of honesty was amazing.

We ate well, drank well, slept well, made some new friends

The Playa is the most desolate place I've ever seen. It is well suited though for the week long festival. The area was laid out well, there was plenty of sani-cans. The roads were sprayed regularly. The event was very well organized. Organized mayham.

The very dry desert air dries your sweat out almost immediately so it's hard to tell that you're becoming dehydrated. I was drinking lots of water (over two liters a day) and was careful with the alochol. Did I mention the booze. It was everywhere and everybody had bars set up in front of their camps. Lots of people drank both early and hard.

I rode my bike everyday and saw as much as I could but wore out fast and ended up spending most afternoons snoozing in the trailer.

All in all it was a blast.

Adios,
Dan

Sounds like you had a blast. Thanks for the report, and I miss going to bumpershoot. That's always a ton of fun also.

Jason, we have never missed one. Bumbershoot and Seafair. Tomorrow we're gonna see Tony Bennett.

Adios,
Dan

I'm a little scared to take my AS to Burning Man (I attended in 2011). Did you have any issues with Playa Dust getting into your interior, especially into the electronics, and causing problems?

I didn't know what playa dust was. Thank goodness for the Urban Dictionary.
Urban Dictionary: playa dust

Guy's, I'll get the pics up soon. As soon as we got back from Burning Man we spent 3 days at Bumbershoot. I saw Tony Bennett and he wuz awsome. For those of You who don't Know, Bumbershoot is an annual music and arts festival in Seattle that has been going on for over 30 years. The guy that started it is named Michael Shreive who was the drummer for Santana when they played at Woodstock. His performance there on "Soul Sacrifice" is one of my favorites. Look it up on You tube.

The playa dust was pervasive but we covered all of the cushions and kept the floor swept. I have 99% of it cleaned up already. The trick is not to get it wet. I cleaned with swiffer dusters and a hepa vac an hour each nite. I waxed the outside before we left and on the way home we hosed it off and 90% of the dust is gone. I will give it a good washing tomorrow.

Between the two events I had a great 10 days but also lost 10 pounds, something I can ill afford to do. My 33" Levis were sliding down my scrawny butt today. I see lots of brownies and Ben & Jerrys in my future.

Adios,
Dan

Dave, when I post the pictures it will be a link. I can't post them here, I'm in the penalty box and these pics would send the mods over the edge.

Adios,
Dan

How much do you charge for those Playa Dust Samples?

They might be a good seller to seal up those leaks one can never find.

That brings another thought, maybe if the Playa Dust was coloured, it could be used to test for leaks by blowing it on the outside of an RV.

I could send you a 100-lb bag of powdered barite. A teeny bag it is for the weight. Several colors available. Playa dust or caliche ain't got nothin' on it.

And, your BM sounded like fun, Dan. A few pounds of weight loss can't be that unusual.

Glad you made it home. Great to meet you. We're in Moab tonite. The inside is clean, outside has a few streaks.

Lots of fun to be had on the playa.

I showed my son the Playa dust and he says it's very similiar to the dust he encountered in Iraq. He says when it gets wet it sticks to everything.

Before we rinsed the trailer off at the campground in Klamath Falls I was startled when I saw it parked from a distance. It looked like it had been painted metallic white. The dust coating was so evenly spread to the surface it looked like a different trailer. Not a bad looking trailer. I'm sure I'll be finding dust in places for a while now. But thats OK. The memories are all good and the dusty reminders will be good too.

The dust may be indeed a good sealer. It can't hurt. I haven't washed it down yet as I've been busy.

BTW, some of the more interesting events at BM included "Fisting with Foxie" and "Booty Wonderland". There were also some extremely interesting talks on geology, photography, yoga, music, film etc. A very good time........

Adios,
Dan
