Airstream on the Water

Here's a link to a YouTube video of an Airstream on a canal in Europe.

That is so cool. But what do you say when you pull up to the dock? Excuse me for barging in.

Awesome, what a great holiday.

Something I noticed, are the European trailers narrower than ours or was that just an illusion?

There was a company not all that long ago that offered something similar for RVs on the Mississippi River. Multiple RVs on one big barge, though. Just the thing for a floating rally! Hmmmm, note to self: When I retire, look at setting up a rally like that…

Yes, the European models are narrow and much lighter as no weight distribution hitches are allowed on the Continent or the UK.

Great idea! The wife and I have been thinking about our 64 on a pontoon boat or barge. Thanks for posting the video.

Do you happen to know why that is? Just curious.

Many of the rural roads in Europe were old horse and wagon width as are many city streets. A 8' 5.5" wide trailer or truck could not get through on these narrow roads. When you get a chance, look at the BMWs or Mercedes or any vehicles made overseas and they are not as wide as our vehicles made in the states.

Weight distribution hitches were banned in Europe to basically keep the less expensive trailers from the US from being sold there. Thus you can spend a lot more currency for a lot less trailer or motorhome over there. I have gone into several different units when over there out of curiosity and they make our Airstreams look like a royal place. Many of their units use surge brakes as well.
