We ended up bypassing the 2012 Dodge Ram factory brake controller as it was completely incompatible with our Titan BrakeRite II SD hydraulic brake controller. We installed the Tuson DirecLink NE brake controller and all was well.

We did an isolation of the truck controller so it thinks all is well as it never "sees" the trailer, thus no error codes are thrown.

I'm not sure how common this is, but our 2005 F350 will not activate the trailer brakes at slow speeds. I think it might be less than 10 mph, but it's quite a while since I looked into it so I'm not sure now. The first time I hooked it up to our trailer I spent a long time trying to figure out why the brakes wouldn't activate as a drove down our driveway. I believe Ford did this to prevent the jerking you sometimes get from the trailer brakes when creeping along in slow traffic.

I know that's not Hans627's problem, but something to keep in mind for others if the brakes don't seem to be working at slow speeds.

Good luck with getting the brakes to work.
While disappointing, I've heard of much worse First Day adventures. Several about awning coming undone on the interstate. Wrecks on the freeway after the first camping trip. Driving away with the electrical connected.
These things happen - on the first day and everyday thereafter. All you can do is learn from your adventures, and learn from other people's adventures.
Good luck on your next adventure!

Same thing happened to us and just took it easy.

[QUOTE=AWCHIEF;1632962]Heck I would of hooked up and headed on home. Slow and easy.

Same thing happened to us and just took it easy on the way home. We have years of trailer delivery behind us and this happens a lot. As long as the lights work, don't get close to anything, look way ahead for traffic and stop lights and you'll be fine. Once pulled a SOB 30+ feet fifth wheel over the Sierras South Lake Tahoe to Sacramento w/o trailer brakes. No problems.

Except legality. Or lack thereof…

If the OP or anyone else wants to violate the law and tow a 3000-pound-plus trailer with no brakes, that's up to them. But it's irresponsible at best, and criminally negligent at worst, to actually advise someone to break the law.

I would have hooked on and brought it home myself, I've never been known for my common sense!
The OP is not an experienced tower and had less than open road to work with . Congratulations on his EXCELLENT decision to go back when things are corrected!

I had the same problems with my AS when I bought a new 1993 F-250. I took the truck & AS to a trailer sales shop & they changed the 7 way plug on the AS and it worked just fine. Since then I have bought several new truck and the lights & breaks works just fine without any further changed.

My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 does not have an intergrated brake controller. I just went to walmart and bought a Reliance brand brake controller. I had to find a special chrylser/dodge pigtail adapter to connect the wires, but it works fine. I mounted it under the steering wheel down low between my kness on the dash panel. I usually have to play with the variable brake setting to get it to my liking. Sorry to hear you are having trouble, I was wondering how you made out.
