A/C in a 30 fly cloud or international?

Have a good buy set up on a Flying Cloud 30 and also a International Serenity 30. One has the two A/Cs the other only one. Can any one tell me if the one unit will do the job nicely. We will be RV ing in South Texas and it can get real hot.

You'll probably be happier with the one that has two units.

We have the 30 foot Flying Cloud. If you turn the AC on in the morning before it gets too hot it does ok, but once it gets hot inside the trailer it just doesnt cool it down very well. We have just the one AC unit.

That's pretty much how ours is on those unbelievably hot days. We have one AC.

Thanks you three. The Flying Cloud has the two units. It also has the recliners which we like (just the two of us, plus two spaniels--the couch in the international would belong to the spaniels--the recliners will be ours.)

Yep, my vote is for two ACs. The recliners sound like another plus.

Two sounds better than one but I have a 31 Limited with one and it works just fine.

A lot of it depends on the temperature. 80 degrees outside? No problem. 90? It'll probably catch up that evening. 100? Forget about it. The problem is biggest the first day of camping, of course, since the camper has had the time to heat up to the ambient temperature outside, or more, while you were on the road. After that day, even if it can't keep it at your desired temperature, it's at least removing humidity, which helps a lot.

(I don't have extensive experience with our AC yet, so I'm just guessing at these numbers. We've actually had some pretty decent weather for camping and haven't had to use it that much.)

We're also in South Texas, have a 31', and believe me, you NEED the two A/C's.

In Texas if you can get two AC units, go for it. I had one AC in both my 25' Airstream and 15K btu in my new 24' class C motorhome. Both huff and puff and struggle with the initial cooldown. They both also take extra measures to make them adequate in very hot weather (shading windows, vents etc.).

I see no downside to the two units except for the 50 amp requirement to run both. Use both for cooldown or when its very hot outside. Use one when that is all needed. Best of all worlds.

If I was based where you are or did a lot of summer travel in that area, I'd have two units. It's been pretty ugly this year in my neck of the woods and we've been hitting 100+ temps since late in June. Even with my 15K unit on my Classic I'd be hesitant to go out in this stuff unless I knew I was under a tree most of the time. Right now our forcast for next week is 100+ every day. We are hearing as much as 108-109 on Tuesday. I heading out in a couple of weeks and I'm high tailing it out to the far north woods.

Yes, when we were in Sedalia a few weeks ago, it was around 100 every day, and we had only 30 amp hookup, so only one A/C unit. It was miserable in the trailer until about 9 PM.

Should I mention that all the International and Region officers that got there a month early got all the 50 amp hookups?

It was 108 a few minutes ago here in Little Rock. A couple of weeks ago, it was 108 in my yard in the shade and 95% humidity.

I wish I had a second AC.

Just curious did your trailer come with the 15K unit or was it the 13.5K? I know when ours was built the standard was 13.5 K and 15K was an upgrade. I had a 13.5 K unit in my 27' Safari and I was out in 104 degree weather in full sun. We rose as high as 88 in ours. Have never experienced anything more that the mid 90's in my Classic and my 15K unit seems to work fine. I'm not sure where it would be though once you would get too much over 100.

Jack,

I honestly don't know. I traded for the trailer a few months ago, it is a 2010 31' Classic, it has two air conditioner units, and a 50 amp service. Guess I need to check the model number. I know the front A/C is a larger unit than the rear. We've seen it as high as yours inside during the hot part of the day.

We have a 30' 2012 Flying Cloud with 1 a/c unit. If I had it to do over, I would definitely go for 2 units. We were in Arizona and Nevada in April and we couldn't get it cool if it was above 90 outside. Our dogs, my husband and I suffered through the hot afternoons.

We have a 30 ft Flying Cloud with one unit and it didn't work well in 100 degree days recently. Airstream says they can put a second unit on it but it will be controlled manually and have a separate electrical line. Costs over $2000 so we haven't pursued it.

Down the road when you ready to sell it, having the second AC will help with the resell value. Just a thought...

One last thread to this A/C story. We did buy the Flying Cloud 30 with two A/Cs from dealer in Denton, TX. Spent the night of pick-up at park in Denton, TX. next day on south to Marble Falls, TX and lake LBJ. for 4 days and nights. Outside temp durning the day was 103 to 106, with full sun each day. The first day with both units cranking, temp inside was great. Then we lost the B/R ac--compressor failure. The remaining 15000 in the main part of the cabin did not have a chance in the 105' and full sun. With a good fan from WalMart helping circulate air and after 9 PM the unit regained temp control for sleeping. So, the second unit was a necessity in south TX for sure, plus we were able to stay with the loss of one since we had the second as what became a back-up.
