Talking 30 or 31? Which is it?

In reading a lot of posts on the forum, I have noticed that many folks who own Safari/Flying Cloud 30s, refer to their trailers as 31s. I know the official length is 30' 11", but Airstream calls them 30s. To further confuse the issue, the 25s are 25' 11", but few refer to them as 26s. It's no big deal, but I just wonder why the two trailers get treated differently by their owners.

The number in the name is nominal. Just a name. We have a older "32" foot. At least that is what it says on the sales brochure that came with it. Went to JC for repairs and they had written 33' on the repair ticket. I asked and they said that was to let them know it is not a 34.
Just a model name.

Other brands of RV numbers have even less bearing on trailer length than Airstreams do. The number is basically a model identifier, not necessarily a true length.
