Now now... I used that term in reference to myself as just an expression to make a point:

I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the configuration of my rig now, but it is certainly far below the "ideal" espoused by many here. I guess we will never know if that makes me a reckless idiot, decreases safety by 6.3% which I can compensate for by driving slowly, or has virtually no influence of my probability of being involved in an accident.

We may differ in opinion here but I'm confident that no-one that takes the time to read this forum is a reckless idiot.

Cheers,
John

You mistook my meaning - I was repudiating the OTHER people that would refer to you that way

FWIW, I didn't see that as an insult to anyone either John.

OK. I'm confused !!!!!! Maybe at some point in my life I was a reckless idiot. AND in 25 years of police work I think I may have called a few people RI's too ( among other things ). But they needed to earn that. A few weeks ago while traveling on I 70 in central Missouri I saw some guy with a car on a single axel flatbed trailer. I didn't notice until I was in the act of passing him or else I might not have. Boy was he a RI.

But here in the forums you can all sit at my campfire.

I'm convinced that with all we know about distracted driving - those who text and drive in the year 2014 are worthy of the label "reckless idiot".

There just is no excuse - sorry if that sounds harsh, but what physical, financial, emotional and other harm was inflicted on one of our fellow Airstreamers because someone couldn't wait a few minutes to pull off the road to send a text? It could have been MUCH worse - even fatal (God forbid). For what? An "lol" or a grocery list?

One guy's view...

2 + 2 = ????

I agree with texting being a big problem, in fact I will say that yaking on the phone while driving is a big problem too.

Some things I know, some things I think I know, and some things I wish I knew.

Having said that, I think one of the most wonderful things in life right now is sitting under the awning of my AS, smoking a good cigar, and talking to a fellow Airstreamer (in person or on this forum) about all this stuff that fits into the three above catagories.

I agree with you that this is a wonderful place to hang out and learn. I also share you frustrations.

One of my concerns is that too often you have someone talking about something that they know nothing about, while claiming that it is fact or experience. We've all done it at one time or another. But, OMG some forum members just don't get it. When these claims can be brushed aside by the simplest application of science, mathematics, and common sense I often find it maddening. I call it Brain Surgeon Syndrome (BS Syndrome). Some people just aren't brain surgeons. Yet they behave online as if they are. Their need to feel good mucks up the data and information that the rest of us are trying to slog through.

Some arguments are based on opinion. I feel that everyone should have a right to their own opinion. Some arguments are based on interpretation. Some arguments are based on facts. Those arguments should clear themselves up quickly, but unfortuatnely often don't. Is that a price we have to pay for diversity? At least this isn't a forum where everyone is espousing the same mantra. That thought makes me think that maybe it's pretty nice here afterall.
