$100k Pick-up, I'm out.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money...uck/712173001/

Gone are the days of pickups, t shirts and the simple life.

I'm out.

It would match your 100k airstream.

I had a similar news story on my iPhone this morning. Don't remember the source. Two things from that story.

If I read it correctly, the F250 base price is going to be around $82,000. What the what?

The Ford spokesman said that they were aiming for (with the $100k models), some words like, a person that typically pulls a $100k horse trailer with expensive horses in said trailer. Yeah, that defines most Americans.

Makes my '02 F250 look all the more valuable, right?

Just sayin'.

I thought that the more your rig cost the more you can brag about it. I like to brag about how little money I have in my rig. I have maybe $20-25k in my trailer and tow vehicle. If you are going to spend $200k on a rig then just get you one of those big bus chassis motor homes.

Ok almost a $100k for a F 450 top of the line luxury diesel dully that can tow 30,000 pounds. Just what a select few might spring for.

Now if any of you have a 30,000 pound Airstream you might want to reassess what you've loaded in it.

A 2017 Ford 250 base model starts at just under 33K. These stories are ridiculously headlined to get your attention. Go to Ford's website and look into itfor yourself......

Bought 2017 Silverado 1500 with everything possible. Then we bought 2017 23FB AS. We had to sell a house to make this happen with money to travel. That's what we wanted and I would not recommend this for anyone. I didn't want to fix an AS up because I've been fixing up houses for years. And I didn't want to upgrade an older TV. Lynn and I are retired, that means we are on permanent vacation.

I think they're referring to the new super lux Limited model that has every possible previous option plus "special" stuff new this year like two tone leather, micro-fiber suede headliner, etc. The current 4x4 diesel Platinum F250 already starts at $71K.

You'll still be able to get a base Super Duty for about $33K.

The first year depreciation on that is more than I paid for my first house. I'll wait.

Not sure how accurate the story is however one can always get a truck tricked out and by the time you finish it is possible to cost 100K or more. I on the other hand will stick with my 2012 F250 diesel

According to some on here the Excursion is the devil of all tow vehicles. Best two vehicle I have ever had.

"Gone are the days of pickups, t shirts and the simple life.'

I am sitting here in my t shirt checking the forums before I head out in my 10 year old truck to do some simple tasks.

Looking at new trucks is not one of the tasks.

Ford's marketing team has certainly managed to generate some (ridiculous) buzz for the F450 Platinum. Several friends who have no interest in trucks have sent me messages about it, as if I'm supposed to be interested in a truck that would tow 4 of my trailer plus the giant flatbed they were stacked on and costs what I spent on my first house "just" 23 yrs ago.

That said, I'm sure they'll find some takers. Rich horse hobbyists with those giant combo rv/horse trailers, business owners with a good "tax guy" who like a posh ride to tow with, etc. On the scale of vehicle prices, it's not really out of the mainstream anymore, since you can option an Escalade or a CTS-V into 6 figures without getting into anything off the regular order guide and a high-trim Buick Enclave *starts* at $50k.

Yeah me too. I have brought it up on this forum several times and always get beaten down by those who have never owned one. At the price of new trucks these days, I will stick with the old. Where I am at is that I would never pay $60k+ on a new truck. I can put that into a new rental property or build onto one of my houses and get some value. My trucks are generally get the job done type of deals.

Amen. When I entered the Airstream world 2 years ago I considered trading my VW Diesel Wagon (40+ MPG) for a new daily driver that was also a tow vehicle. The thought of going back to 17 mpg on a daily basis was discouraging.

I solved my problem by finding a 2000 Tundra trade-in with 93,000 miles at a dealer, in great condition, for $9,000. It was worth more like $12k.

So I kept my daily driver, added a pickup which is handy to have anyway, and have been happy ever since. Is it luxurious? No. Do people out on the road covet it? No. Is it reliable, does the job well, and cost me very little? Absolutely.

What works for me however doesn't work for everyone else. Different strokes.
