More than we can chew????

We are just getting into restoring our trailer. It is a 30" Ambassador. We were told it was a 64 but can't find any supporting info on what we have. All I know is that it is going to be one heck of a job. But from what we see here, well worth it.

Based on the door and the windows I would say it is a 63/64 model. 65 had a single door with a screen.

The best way to figure it out is to post the VIN that is on the plate next to the door. There is a decoder out there to tell you what it means, but I do not know where it is. Someone here will be able to either decode it for you or point you in the correct direction.

Welcome to the forum!

It looks like you have a lot to work with. Very nice looking trailer I might add! I would expect that it will be a very nice when you are finished with it.

Take your time and don't let it get to you. I haven't done a complete restoration project myself but after watching everyone else on this forum that has, I wouldn't be afraid to tackle it if I needed to. With all of the help available here I think you could find out anything you need to know and how to go about doing the repairs.

This is such a great forum, welcome aboard!

Problem is...an Ambassador is 28'. If it's 30' it's a Sovereign....

Regardless, I concur it's a '64...check out the 63/64 Ambassador & Sovereign examples on this website to see if it helps clear things up for you.

From the serial number, it's a California built 1964. That's consistent with the features of your trailer. The Ambassador had 7 panel end caps through '63, and went to 5 panel end caps (like yours) in 1964. I think we figured out last week that '64 was the last year for the "door within a door" feature that you have. Ergo, 1964.

It is a beaut. Isn't is always the case that you feel that way during a restoration. Having refurbd' my '64 Glasspar boat, I can say as I look at it, what a long strange trip it's been, but in the end, as I look over it years later, she's in tip top shape and it was me that brought it from the depths of death!
