Stainless steel water heater door latch?

Hello all. Has anyone ever found a source for the spring latch that holds the water heater door closed? If so please post it. THe Zinc coated ones rust and they are the only one's I've found for replacements.

Try a search for Replacement Water Heater Door Latch #00225

The one I have appears to be powder coated and is black. The ones I've seen mostly seem to be the bright zinc coated ones you mentioned. These appear black in the photos, but they don't give any details. I think I've seen them from time to time when I've been browsing the parts stores.

That part is called a "cam lock".

They are available in black metal, silver metal and white plastic.

Yes, the silver ones rust after 10 or 15 years.

So.................

So do cars, that cost a lot more money.

Not too many things last forever.

Cam locks are real cheap.

just plastic

It is a Camco latch although they do get called "CamLoc", which is a similar but different type of fastener readily available in stainless.

They do get rusty fast. I never was able to find a Camco in stainless. The plastic ones still have a steel spring but the handle is plastic. It does look a little thicker.
