Rear bumper access lid

Does anyone have a pic they could post showing a custom access lid on the rear bumper.I have a 65 Ambie.I want to rebuild the lid but the fabricator is telling me the bend roll for the hinge was made on a special die and he can't do it.Could I make a piece that slides under the skin and attach the lid to this with a stainless piano hinge?

Hi Steve, This is what was done in 67. I don't see why you couldn't set your bumper up the same way.

Sealant will take care of that problem. I not sure why you would need thicker material. Looks like you already have something there. Can you cut the existing cover back? The lid(door) is a thicker and basically supports itself. I hope we are on the same page...

Fastenal carries an aluminum piano hinge. I replaced my hinge after the kids left some fertilizer on the bumper and the hinge was left unusable.

My friend Phil made my aluminum bumper box lid exactly as you are proposing. The hinge is stainless steel.

Last week I added a couple of drawer locks to the lid.

Thanks Smokeless Joe .This is exactly what I had in mind.Lee it appears that this lid is more hefty than what I have currently that is all bent up.What I have now is about .020 thick.If I use something thicker it needs to fit easily under the skin. Thanks to both of you.
