Question outside compartment floor rusted out

'03 31' classic has outside compartment floors rotted out. One small one on right side and left water compartment. What is the usual fix. Repair parts or local sheet metal??
As usual, thanks for help.
Bob

Not all AS created equal, my compartments are constructed of aluminum, body is fiberglass but the framing between is steel that I have found rust on, I can only get at a small section of it. I painted rust remover to try and change rust to non rusting oxide. When we had autos that had small holes in floorboards we could overlay larger sheet but never a permanent fix as long as metal kept rusting.

Bob,
If the ones your talking about are cut into the bottom wrap ( originally white painted steel), Airstream sells replacements as an upgrade and they are made from aluminum instead of the OEM steel ones. Or, you can buy the steel OEM replacements as well at less money.

I removed sandblasted then repainted and reinstalled.

AS has fresh sheet metal replacements. A local sheet metal shop can build for you of course.

Take the old one off, sandblast it, weld in a patch panel, paint and you are good to go

We replaced ours that were already rusting with the factory stainless steel replacements.

Thanks for correcting me about the type of metal the upgraded ones are made of that AS sells. I guess I was thinking stainless and typed aluminum. I think I have aluminum on the brain!

They can be ordered thru any Airstream Dealer or contact Airstream at 937 596 6111 ext. 7400
It is not to bad to install but there is a city water hook up that will need to be Removed and reinstalled along with compartment door.

Seems like Silver Trailer Supply has the aluminum replacements for less money than Airstream. Google it.

Ours were 1/8" diameter, 1/8-1/4" "grip range". I used a little deeper then added washers on the 'grip side'...

Use a drill bit to gauge the size of the holes..

Hi, has anyone been able to find these compartments recently? I don't know if I'm searching wrong or if they don't offer them anymore but I can't seem to find replacements... the floors of my outside storage compartments are rusted out. A link would be greatly appreciated
