No key for outside compartment.

I have no key for this outside compartment. Any ideas of how to open it without damaging it? It is easy to find a replacement lock?

Here's a post with a link to a useful key-fitment chart for vintage Airstreams.

It says you're looking for key# 166, but I don't know where to find that one. I didn't find it at Out Of Doors Mart, for example, where I was able to purchase the hard-to-find key for '70s water-fill doors.

Try a lock smith. They would at least be able to open it. Good luck!

If you can access the door from inside the trailer remove the large screw that holds the locking tab to the lock. You can buy replacement locks for under $5.00 at almost any RV store or from Vintage Trailer Supply

It is not worth the cost of a lock smith

It is a simple baggage lock, available at most hardware stores and RV parts places. If you can get to see the inside by removing any interior items, you can take a screwdriver and remove the inner tang which is held on with just one screw. That way you can open the compartment and take the lock out. Then replace it with one from the hardware or RV store.

Most of us with older coaches have keys we'd had no clue about, but I've opened many other panels with those keys.If you could find a AS, they mite have the key.

I had the same problem with my 72 TW. I ended up ordering new locks from vintage trailer supply and drilling out the old ones. On a good note, vintage trailer supply keyed them all same.

I understand that Airstreams of the same year and/or size often have keys that fit each other, so if you can contact a Forum member with the same unit you have, maybe they would be willing to send you a duplicate of their key.

Good luck!
