My '68 Sovereign's door :(

Hello all. First I'd like to say that I appreciate all of the conversation and sharing of knowledge on this forum - it has definitely helped me make better informed decisions on the repairs I'm making!

Now - to my current problem. The door and the hinge both are cracked plus the door doesn't close properly. I read a post where Andy () described what could befall an Airstream that could cause this, but here I am on the repairing end - what advice do you all have to repair the door and/or hinge so that it can shut properly (when we moved it here we drove 700 miles with the door ducttaped shut so it wouldn't get caught in the wind).

This wrecked unit may yield a useful door and frame for you. Not sure of the compatibility between 68 and 69.

Hi,
I haven't been on the forum in quite some time. But, now it's back to fixin up my camper. I have a 1968 Soverign as well. The door striker was missing when I purchased the camper. It had a piece of a striker that sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. The location where the striker was orginally located had been cut out. I went to Lowes and purchased an oversized striker and some aluminum stock for shimming. It works great -- execpt -- I cannot lock the door and shut it. Dummy here did not even look at how the thing worked. :-( Apparently the latch locks in the out position when locking the door. So if your outside, then lock the door with the inside handle, you cannot shut the door. Now my key may not be working properly, but I cannot use the key to lock the door from the outside. It unlocks fine. Can you tell me if the door striker is shaped similar to a house striker plate? Can you lock you door from the outside using the key? Can you post or send some pics of the original striker? I would appreciate any info.
Thanks,
Randy

The correct entrance door lock for a 68 trailer, is a Bargman L-100 special.

It has an extra long striker bolt. The correct striker pocket is made with nylon.

That lock can be locked and opened from the outside, with a key.

It can also be locked and unlocked, from the inside, "without" a key.

68 Sovereign door

Andy,
As always, you are the man! So, my lock must not be operating properly. It unlocks from the outside with the key, but will not lock. I'll tinker with it a little longer and if I cannot get it to work, I'll search for a replacement. Does Inland have a replacement? Again, I appreciate your help!
Thanks,
Randy
