Lock cylinders for exterior compartments

Does anyone know where I can find the lock cylinders for the exterior compartment doors? I have a '69 Ambassador and I had to drill out one of the lock cylinders (the fridge access door) because I lost the key.

You have to replace the lock assembly.

There are 2 choices.

You can upgrade to the telescoping locks that were used in the 70's.

Or you can down grade and use the "T" handle locks from the late 60's.

What you are looking for are "cam locks". Cam locks are not uncommon and you should be able to find them in your local area at a hardware store, cabinet shop or RV place. Take in the old cam lock they come in different lengths.

If you like to shop on line try Out-of-Doors Mart, Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies!, Inland RV Center - The Nations Leading Expert in Airstream Innovations or RV Supplies, RV Accessories & RV Parts for Motorhomes, Campers, Travel Trailers & 5th Wheel Campers - fifth wheel camper - Camping World ect.

cam locks - Google Search

I'm not sure that a garden variety cam lock will fit, look right, or withstand the environment. The stock ones, at least on newer units, have dust shutters over the keyway.

They do not replace access compartment locks.

Many types of cam locks...

Baggage Door Lock - Cam Style

If you don't think the cam lock at the hardware is up to snuff do yourself a favor and take the old one down and compare them. You might save some money in shipping charges.

You can find the one with dust covers too. cam locks dust covers - Google Search

The second picture is one found a ACE Hardware. Prime LineŽ Mailbox 5 Cam Lock Assortment (S4533) - Mailbox Locks & Accessories - Ace Hardware

Ace cam lock - Shop sales, stores & prices at TheFind.com

A third example. Cam Lock Dust Cover

Just some examples of whats out there.

Andy,
I think I have the T-handle locks (it's a 1969). The cam lock in silverleeper's post won't work in my compartment handles. The shaft and locking lever are part of the handle. The locking cylinder can be remove and the handle will still be functional, it just won't lock. Is that what you mean by T-handle and are locking cylinders still available?

Jason.

Lock cylinders or tumblers, are not available.

The 69 T handle lock, sticks out about 2 inches. That's why many of them have been sheared off.

A replacement is T handle lock is #19380.

Many 69 owners, upgrade and installed the "telecoping" lock, as used in the 70 to 77 models. It's # 19479.

Photos of each can be seen on our web site.
