Is the water heater door aluminum?

Before I kill myself trying to polish to door of the water heater, is it aluminum? It is so heavily etched, that I'm afraid it will take an eternity to polish it up. I went over it once with F9 Nuvite & it didn't touch it. Oh, I'm the one with the Fake Excella that's actually a 1976 International Overlander.
Thanks in advance.

Cover is stainless steel because of prroximity to the flame. Sme goes for the refer cover.

Hi, Becky,

I ordered a new Atwood water heater to replace my original one, and they sent it with a crappy, cheap-looking, very thin, steel cover. I tossed it and reused my old one. It looks like yours - satin finish on the outside and smooth inside.

If you want to replace it with a new one John Irwin posted a source in his Classic 28 thread. Looks really sharp.

Guess you will have to look through the thread for the dealer source. I think Airstream Life has plans to offer them on their site too.
