Hot water heater door

While polishing my '61 Bambi, I discovered that my door was iron and had been painted silver. I haven't come across any polishable aluminum doors, so I sanded and repainted, but I'm not happy with it.

If you have dealt with it, Im curious to what you did with this problem...

Or, if you just have ideas or options...

Thanks in advance

Stainless steel exterior doors are seen from time to time. There was a dealer that was either making them or had them made for a while, but he's out of the business.

It's the type of thing to keep you eye open for on the Classifieds here, and on *baY, for example: they do exist.

However, I do not think that SS will go to the same high polish as aluminum will though, will it?

You might check out having ie chrome plated. Not cheap, but you will be done.
