Exterior refer door madness! Help!

Well I finally got the right door for my missing refer door for the exterior of my 79 31' International. It's the right fit but I seem to be missing some parts, what parts, I don't know. The way it is right now it will not fasten securely in the hole. Obviously it is missing some sort of knob that goes in the bottom hole but it seems to be missing weather stripping as well. Right now this would be a haven for mice yellow jackets etc.

Hi, Wacnstac,

Well, you're missing the quarter-turn lock assembly on the bottom of it. These are not rare, and your local locksmith or maybe even hardware store can supply it. You should see the slot below where the little arm goes into.

The rubber gasket is not elaborate, either. You can find several of them at Aircraft Spruce and Specialty on the net, but your local Autozone, etc, may have something similar enough on spools.

Any gasket that will either slip on the door or the frame will work, as their only function is to stop the door from rattleing. The door is a vent and should not need any type of weather seal on it. You might also want to put some aluminum screening over the inside of the vent openings to keep the mud dauber wasps out of the compartment. They do love to build nests in enclosed spaces like this

So does the weather strip attach to the door? On the inside? Around the outside? Seems like a nice mouse nesting area to me.

I started out to take a picture of my Argosy door that is similar to yours, no vents and painted but similar - but its pooring the rain down here. I'll get a pic for you later.My door has a key lock in the hole at the bottom and a seal on the door that goes all the way around.

Mine is very similar to yours...I'll get you some pics.

If you can see in the pic there really isn't a gasket...it's a little strip of foam that attaches on the left and right inside of the unit. Hope this helps!
