'02 Safari Door Gasket Install Help Needed

I need to install a new entrance door gasket on my 02 Safari. The present gasket is the wrong gasket and does not do the job. I am ordering the proper gasket and I know to use both the sticky back and the good black gasket adhesive.

Does the door gasket go all of the way around the door? Do you cut and miter the corners for under the door or is it one continuous loop around the door?

Any pictures of a properly installed door gasket on this vintage door would be greatly appreciated.

Bud

The entrance door gasket "must" go all the way around the door, with the seam at the bottom.

The proper adhesive is 3M8008, which is black.

DO NOT use the 3M yellow adhesive as it's not strong enough.

I have the new door gasket and the correct 3M adhesive. My door did not have the proper gasket installed previously so I have no idea what a properly installed door gasket should look like. I have read many threads about door seals and door gaskets. I am one of those people who really needs a picture of a properly installed door gasket. I have not been able to find a picture of a properly installed door gasket. Can anyone share a picture of a properly installed door gasket?

That gasket is triangular shaped.

The white part is mounted to the door sheetmetal.

The gasket rests against the sheet metal and the door framing.

Apply some adhesive to the white side of the gasket, and to the backside of the door sheetmetal.

Allow that to dry for about 10 minutes, and then install it. Use caution when installing it since once you place it against the door, you will not be able to move it.

Start at the center of the bottom of the door, and go around the top. At the bottom, overlap the gasket about 1/8 of an inch. Apply adhesive to both ends of the gasket. After 10 minutes, stick the 2 ends together as well as against the sheet metal.

That in effect gives you a solid gasket, with no cuts, or seams.

Photo's won't show you that procedure.

After the installation is complete, spray the gasket with silicone spray and shut the door. Leave the door shut for a couple of hours to allow all the adhesive to properly bond the gasket to the metal.
