WTB - Small # of Olympic Rivets 5/32"

Fellow Airstream Enthusiasts,

I've been updating a '76 Globetrotter - I want to replace the skylight windows as they're deteriorated.

Do any of you have a small inventory of 5/32" Olympic Rivets that I can buy? I only need @ 50 or less. I can buy them from Vintage Trailer Supply if need be but will have more than I need. Is it possible to use a Dremel to grind down the point or do I need to invest the money in the tool they recommend?

It looks to me that the ONLY way to remove the glass skylights is by drilling out the rivets from the exterior.

Thanks so much,

Ken Tuvman

I`m sure somewhere down the road you are going to need more,I think maybe Inland RV sells them by the piece. If you take your time you can get them to look decent with a roto zip. That tool is expensive.Dave

Buy 100...you'll need more than you think & by the time you buy 50 individually +shipping - you'll spend about the same as the 100 will cost. Better pricing per rivet on a hundred. I know the dealership by me sells them individually for $.79!!!

I believe Outofdoorsmart (something like that, anyway) has them for a good deal, try their website.

Do not attempt to install the vent covers with Olympic rivets.

They will crack the plastic.

Use soft aluminum pop rivets.

When you do use Olympics, do not use those that have a washer. In time, that washer fails, leaving you with a loose fitting, that also will leak.

We got ours by the 100's from VTS - looks like they are $22.85 per 100 right now ~

Here is a picture of what I'm trying to say

These are the rivets holding in the skylight glass that has deteriorated.

I am guessing the rivets holding the aluminum frame are Olympic rivets.

Am I correct?

Thanks again,

Yes, your correct.

Use Vulkem as a sealer, between the window frame and the sheet metal.
