Well, it sounds like a resounding "NO!" according to this forum. I hope the subject doesn't come up until next year. By then I should be completely finished polishing, etc. I think I'll have the guts to say I have too much time invested in Bessie to lend her out to anyone but my family (sons, daughters). Thanks for all the responses. I guess I've learned my lesson & won't be borrowing anything from anyone!

The Caring, loving, sensitive, intelligent and zestful gunslinger...

Well Becky,

Isn't this forum great? This wonderful diversity of responses lets you (and the rest of us) thoughtfully examine the different ways we might respond to the same situation.

The intentionally drawn-out Palladin NOoooo! Followed by the old gunslinger's 2-minute menacing stare is often enough to ward off the inappropriate request.

Hi--I've owned my A/S (which doesn't have a name for 18-years), and experienced many misadventures, and I am very familiar with it's idiosyncracies. Things that happened when I had it out: pulled out of camp site with outriggers down (only a couple of feet); overflowed black tank during rinse; stone broke front curved side window (went to Jackson Center for replacement install); started out with step down; started out with door open; started out with antenna up; hail in CO broke out roof vent plastic window; towed in heavy wind, rain, and snow; and other misadventures I don't remember now. Operating and setting up all the systems is tricky. I don't want to place that responsibility on anyone but me.--Frank S

Or maybe you could try..."I'll let you borrow it, if you polish it!" But that only works on 40+ years of oxidation...

Actually, the guy who picked it up said "when I get back, I'll finish polishing your trailer for you one day" I laughed in his face & said "you have no idea how long this has taken me. I've worked about 100 hours on it so far." I wouldn't let anyone else near it with a polisher who doesn't know what they're doing anyhow! That just shows how much people who don't have Airstreams know about the time invested in them.

Wouldn't it be nice if this was a guy who polished airplanes at the local airport for a living?

Not while I am still breathing. The only person I would trust emphatically with my rig is my dad who has been towing Airstreams all over this planet since 1978 and my brother from whom I bought my trailer.

I have a feeling your kids would be the ones to gladly jump in the shower, and ask what else they should do before using my hot tub.

Becky, I recommend you practice saying the following:

"Well, Sis, our love and friendship means too much to me to risk the bad feeling that could come about if the trailer was damaged. I've put hundreds of hours of loving work into it, and it means so much to me. I do hope you can understand."

Nick.
