Marie, call your employer and request FMLA leave time. It probably won't be paid, but they'll have to keep your job open for you. If you use up all your sick and vacation and don't return, they can terminate you for job abandonment. FMLA allows you to take an unpaid leave of absence specifically for this kind of event.

I know there are some surprisingly medieval HR policies out there, (hence the need for FMLA), but a lot of employers allow you to use sick time not just for when YOU are sick, but also to care for a sick relative.
Nurses are a hot commodity around here...I wouldn't worry about it. You've got more important things to worry about...

Hi. I am back again briefly to make sure the forums is not a smoking pile of ruuble, and everyone sems to be doing well. I will take some time this morning to read the posts in this thread, and update y'all on my condition.
First, they have taken away my morphine injection system (I see a future in this for installation on motorhomes for a performance advantage, either in the motorhome, or in the passengers. )
Then again, maybe not, I am still suffering the effects of the concussion I got in the accident. Makes a lot of things seem like good ideas at the time, but upon reflection they just seem strange. I am still getting dizzy from the concussion, although not as bad as at first, I guess these things take time to heal. I have been able to move around the hospital room I am in, although I have discovered another injury we didn't know I had, which was a severly pulled/strained muscle in my right shoulder.
I have learned that being able to fly without an aircraft, while a neat concept, is not worth the trouble. So, there will be no invasions of "Terry's flying scooter squadron" at any future rallies.
I have also learned that suffering from a concussion makes you hallucinate a great deal, especially at night.

Okay, one last thing before I fade off into the sunset for today. After several consults with my surgeons, and anybody else with an opinion on the matter, professional or otherwise, my prognosis, while not so good, is better than it could have been. I will probably never return to my career of choice, and will most likely semi-retire. This will be after 8 weeks of non weight bearing getting around, and physical therapy. Then, another 8 weeks of gradualy increasing weight bearing until I get as much back as I will get back. I will be looking at 4 months of not doing much constructive.

You may be onto something with the morphine injection system....
Welcome back Terry. If what you're asking is what do we think about the recovery situation, my thought is that it will be a long road, but as you said, might have been worse (not that what you have will be a picnic). The recovery part to me, sounds about right for an injury of your type, it that is also what yer askin.....
Keep your spirits up and keep up your fine sense of humor. I really got a kick out of the morp injection system.

Glad to hear you are back on the forums. Rumor had it that they would have to shut down untill your return.
I would not worry about the FAA investigation because you did not file a flight plan.

Get better, you have alot of friends out here, we care....

Terry, this is amazing! We've appreciated hearing from Marie ... and now multiple updates from you. Thank you.
Still wouldn't wish the 'forced vacation' on you but planning will give you something to work towards. Attitude is important and the long haul is lo-o-ong, so don't hesitate to seek support.

Terry, It's great to have you back on the forums. That keen sense of humor will make the recovery process go quicker (It's good medicine for what ails you.) and will be more tolerable.
We'll keep the line open to upstairs and keep the prayers going.
God Bless you and your lovely bride, Marie.

Steph, I am going to be looking long and hard into other interests (and maybe making a living from them) I just need to make sure I am not huffing morphine or anything while trying to make those decisions,,,

My daughter had one of those on-demand machines postop after she'd torn a shoulder apart kayak guiding in Seward, Alaska. Her's was for demerol -- a drug well known for nausea and a cure in itself. Just ask your docs to switch you over to either demerol ... better yet, to Walbernize!
Anybody there noticed your Aluminitis yet, Terry?

Well, well, look who's posting. Terry, it's great to have you back, even if its in a highly medicated state. Maybe with all this time on your hands, you can bump SilverTwinkie off the top poster perch. Also, if you're looking into a career, maybe just maybe you could fly around the country (on a plane this time) and supervise folks' restorations. Plenty of that going on around these parts. Sure is good to have you back. You get my vote for Moderator of the Month for sure!!!!
Bset of lcuk to you btoh!! See, I can speak Terry too.

career(S)
I've found that most people tend to fall into a career that they never imagined or planned. I went from English major to become a computer programmer, which led me into managment at a bank. Then during the great buyout and merger flurry of the mid-eighties, I bought into a business that a friend owned and became an answering service owner/manager. Now I (who used to hide in a closet at the mere thought of public speaking) am the main sales person for our business.....
So Terry, what do you do for a living? And more importantly what are your hobbies? Of course you could always be an RV salesman! I'm also wondering if you could work in information technology. There are a lot of industry blogs that might need a professional moderator/organizer.
