Hi all,
Not much to add, Terry is getting IV's at home, I start them before I go to work at 12 noon and the home health nurse comes in around 1:15 and disconnects it. When I get home at midnight I run another dose, takes an hour, and it's done.
He seems to be feeling better, and glad to be home. Me too, Cookie too.
Well, as you can see by the time it's late so I'm going to transform from nurse to sleeper.
Good night and God Bless all of you.
Marie

Hi All,
Well all seems to be going well. I took Terry to Naples to see a friend of ours for about an hour today, and he seemed to enjoy it, but sure was hurting by the time we got back.
Our son came down from Holliday to help repair Moose, and the batteries were completely dead. The battery charger is on the second one, and if this doesn't work, I'm off to buy 2 batteries for him.
Just wanted to let everyone know Terry is making improvement and we go back to Tampa Wed for a very early Dr appointment Thur am. (8am).
Our best to all of you,
Marie

Good Sunday to all,
Moose is repaired!!!!!
He had 2 really dead batteries, but they have been recharged and I swear on a stack of airstream service manuals I will drive it at least twice a week.
Terry is doing great. I had to change the dressing on his pick sight and he looked at me and said, "Have you ever done this before?" Nope never have, give me your arm so I can learn. Then I told him the truth, only about 4000 times.
Well, not much to report, but wanted to let everyone know he is doing wonderfull. He still does his excersises faithfully and is tolerating the antibiotic very well.

Thanks, but my brother looks more like him than I do...his nickname is "Duke".
I'm back to walking the dog in the afternoon when Marie is at work, and I'll probably start making the trek out to the mailbox starting Monday or Tuesday. I have been told it will be at least another 6 weeks before I can even begin putting weight on my right foot, and I'm still having trouble spending all night lying in bed because of my broken back. But it is better than the alternative.

"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."
Come to think of it, I did die as a result of a surgery a few years ago, but I'm better now. (That's another story for another thread--someday)

Terry,
I was just in your neck of the woods last week and was thinking about you. Glad to hear you are on the mend.

Continuing my tour of the hospitals in Florida today, I had to go to the emergency room to get the picc line removed, it had somehow gotten infected. I am now on very strong oral antibiotics, and will find out tomorrow if it has to be put back in for a few days. I'm thinking about starting to write reviews of them, anybody want a critique of them let me know...

Oh Terry, that sucks! Take care of your stomach, those high-powered bug-killers can be murder on the gut.
As far as the reviews, maybe you could publish something like Fodor's Travel Guides, say Florida hospitals ~ the Suncoast edition.
Seriously, I hope the opportunity to review more facilities eludes you.

Sugarfoot,
You and me both!!! We are leaving for Tampa in a couple of hours to see the Orthopedic Dr. at 8am tomorrow morning. It helps Terry rest if I don't have to drive 3 hours before he sees the Dr.
The PICC line area started swelling yesterday morning, but functioned perfectly for the 12 noon dose of ABT. When the Home Health nurse came in, it was more swollen, so I called the Infectious Disease Dr in Tampa and they told me to take him to the ER here in Cape Coral. Left work, again, and took him in. Sure enough, by the time we got there it was red and hot. Dr did not feel that an infiltrate had occcured, but that it was cellulitis.
Yes, we do wash our hands down here before doing procedures. Terry had severe road rash with numerous open wounds and the Drs feel this is the way the bacteria invaded. It could have happened on the scene, any one of 2 surgeries, 2 ambulance rides, or it could have been his own body. Everybody has staff on thier skin. When a person becomes injured and debilitated it can enter the skin through the tiniest open area and become the bad bug. A break in techinque is not the only way to get it. It ususally does not happen that way. I have gloves here and everyone has to use them when dealing with his IV. I changed the dressing myself on Sunday utilizing the mask , sterile gloves and aseptic technique.
Thanks for all your good thoughts, prayers and wishes for us.
Marie

For some reason, my computer, internet connection, forums, or something is not wanting me to post this. It was a rather long response, so I'll do the Reader's Digest version:
It could have been our dog climbing in my lap that caused this, she doesn't understand I am unwell, and she wants to be on me all the time. I will take a nap, and when I wake up she is in my lap.
On an interesting side note, one of my former trainees was my nurse last night, it is good to see the professionalism and attention to detail I tried to instill in him was retained. He was working his way through nursing school a few years back, and he is now a full-fledged nurse. Needless to say, I was well-treated.

Nive try Terry - blaming the dog!
Have you been sneaking out and fooling with the AS dump valves when no one was looking? Next time wear a gown and cover your arms.
Hang in there and heal up - camping season is coming soon!

sorry, folks...I meant no offense with my previous comment. I'm just venting frustration.
My FIL is down there in FL...has been dealing with a chronic illness that requires frequent similarly invasive procedures, and it seems that whenever he has to be in the care of a medical facility, these "procedures" inevitably result in a nasty infection. However, in the care of his wife (MIL), at home...this has never happened once. (in 3 years!).
