Thanks. I am keeping my posts short. Morphine and typing are a bad mix.

Good afternoon all of our airstream family,

Terry is doing much better. He was up walking (non weight bearing) with therapy twice today. We've seen his doctor. infectious disease doctors, and numerous others. They are waiting to see what the bacteria is before a final decision on how long he has to have the IV therapy. They have changed the antibiotics to broader spectrum ones and hopefully that will do the trick.

He is scheduled for another surgery Friday to see if they can close the incision and take the wound vac off. He is a fast healer and we're hoping they close the wound.

He and I are hoping to be out of here and home by Saturday or Sunday.

Keep the non-infectious thoughts coming our way.

Thanks for all you do,
Marie

I would only point out that this is a major financial stress on Terry and Marie. The Paypal route would still be much appreciated for "one of our own" if you could consider that at all. Thank you!

hi terry/marie

reading about this setback is a bummer.

lets hope his wound has wimpy bugs (no mrsa) and responds well to the bug killer juice....

i keep thinking,

had they used vulcem and rivets

instead of staples and string...

he would NOT be leaking now.

stay strong

I mentioned contributions a few posts back. I've had a couple inquiries (thank you folks!) and realize I should have reposted their Paypal email address: bnsf971@yahoo.com -- It even took me some digging to find it about 171 posts earlier in this thread.

It might take something more than a Gasparilla parade this time. How 'bout an impromptu Airstream rally in Tampa?! Just a crazy he=ough. I'd have to start driving this morning -- just let me know.

Bob, thanks for the email and hence the PayPal connection.

As one who is self employed I am under insured for health care. If someone ran me down I'd be in quite a spot.

So as a challenge to all of you who read this I've made a token transfer of $25 to Terry's PayPal account. You don't have to match this amount. But think of what you spent last month on coffee? Beer? Your Airstream?

Let's see what we can do to help our friend offset what will be staggering medical costs.

Send what you can.... and if you can't just send your best wishes.

Hi,

Our deepest thanks to those who have and will donate to help us out. This weeks tally comes to over $700.00 in hotels, gas. meals etc. Had I known it would be this long, I would have gone back home on Tuesday, hooked up Goliath and dragged him down to stay in. However my mechanic is not up to repairs, and Moose has a dead battery. My fault, I didn't drive him enough in the last few weeks. My son is comming down next weekend to fix him under Terry's direction. The people at the Howard Johnson Towers in downtown Tampa have been wonderful and very helpful. I reccomend them to anyone in this situation.

Today's news is mixed. The blood culture they did in the OR is growing a "staph" bug. Guess who. My guess is MRSA, but we won't know until late tomorrow. The infectious disease doctor told us today he will be on IV antibiotics at least 2 weeks, and depending on the bug and what the surgeon says, it could be longer. Terry took the news well especialy when they told him the central line in his neck would come out, and they would put a PICC line in. For non medical people it is a line in the bend of the arm that goes into a major vessel near the heart. It is better for long term therapy and will be more comfortable for him.

As for a rally in downtown Tampa this weekend go for it. It would do my heart a world of good to look out the window and see a sea of aluminium. I know you can't on such short notice, but I think the "he=ough" is very special.

It just goes to show what wonderfull and kind people on on the forum and I think of all of you as family. Thank You for helping us get through this.

Marie

Our airstream family rocks!!!!

Terry was feeling better tonight. Surgery is scheduled for 12:00 noon tomorrow. He will be NPO after midnight and tried to bargain with the nurse to let him drink until 2am. Did not work!!!! You gotta give him credit for trying.

I told him to eat a snack at 11:00 tonight to tied him over and hopefully he will.

Well, it's after 9pm here and I'm going to bed, since tomorrow will be stressfull. I'll post later tomorrow afternoon and let everyone know the results.

Marie

We're in. Too much in common here...both nurses who've cared for very ill husbands named Terry. And the next thing we'll have in common is when he joins my Terry in being fully recovered and healthy!
Our hearts and thoughts stay with you.
Get rest when you can.

Dear Terry & Marie
my soulmate, my friend, my lover and my wife(all the same person), and a top notch nursing sister(she beats House to the diagnosis!), my dearest Jules keeps me up to date on what all the medical stuff means. I wish this could just take time, but a big worry is the absence of stuff that jangles in our pockets. Open your wallets and repeat after me,
"Help Yourself!"
Marc

Good evening,

The surgery to close Terry's incision was succesful.

The culture came back and it was MRSA. One of the 2 bugs I did not want to see. They have him on Vancomycin and have repeated the blood culture, but we won't have the results until Sunday. The last blood culture and the wound culture both showed the bad bug, but they have him on good bug juice. The infectious disease doctor will be in in the am and hopefully we will know how long he has to have it. Usually 6 weeks. The home health nurses will help with the IV's and blood draws to monitor the medication.

He was very pleased to be through with the wound vac and have less tubes to deal with.

I will say the isolation gowns, gloves and masks are very warm when worn for an extended time.

Well, it's late and I'm pooped, so more later.

Thank you so much for the prayers, good thoughts and caring.

Marie
