When did the six sleepers start?

After four years of fixing up my '71 Safari four sleeper, we are adding a fifth person to the clan in October

So, I am seriously considering selling and upgrading to a newer model six sleeper. I don't want to go new, ie. I don't want a payment

I'm not sure what I could get for mine either. I would like to go with a later widebody model and it would have to sleep six.

What year range should I be looking at, and how much should I expect to have to pay?

If the new clan member is the normal size for new clan members, you could just convert a drawer to additional bunk space as needed.

What is DCFS ?

I'm just using the new baby as an excuse after seeing Big Dee's rig at the forum rally

Presumably DFCS= Dept. of Child and Family Services, or something close thereto. Exact bureaucratic name varies from place to place.

I meant to leave the drawer open when it's used for a bed, for criminy's sake!

Unless I'm mistaken, the true widebodies didn't come out until '95-'96. My '94 isn't considered a widebody. I found mine last summer at a price just south of 20k. I know that there are shorter 6-sleepers out there, as in the 32-footers, but I would imagine a widebody of that age and length would be somewhere between 30-40k in good condition.

Here is a 1998 31' in the forum classifieds for 24,900: http://www.airforums.com/class...&cat=16&page=3 . Of course, it may be long gone.

Not all 30/31' models have the dinette necessary to make six beds.

Good luck,

Mark

Add a Bunk

Tim,

Just add a bunk above your twin. It shouldn't be that hard and it'd buy you time till you had to upgrade. (I now have a '73 Sovereign center bath out by the barn that I've been forbidden to start on until EVERYTHING else is finished..including the Overlander. With 7 children, I figured the Overlander wasn't going to work too much longer.)

The newer Airstreams look nice but they are way to heavy for my tastes (and I have a Powerstroke in my van).

Thanks Dan.

I just saw Big Dee's trailer over the rally and got me drooling

It would be nice. I'm just going to keep my eyes out and see how the prices go. I can get by with mine for at least a year or two still.
