In Michigan RV trailers have permanent plates. Meaning you pay couple hundred bucks (e.g 2016 25' FC) when you register it then after that, as long as you own it, there is zero dollars spent on annual renewals ( there are no annual renewals).

I am sure you are all aware that each and every state will get their tax money from you one way or the other. Soon or later we will all pay about the same percentage of our incomes/net worth in taxes. In Washington we used to pay license fees based on the value of your vehicle. A new automobile would cost me in the $300 range. This would actually go down(but not much) after 5 years as the thing depreciated.

We had a taxpayer uprising and passed an initiative that made all licenses tabs worth $35. After a very short while, many small towns and cities were running out of money to run things so we saw the beginning of a creep back towards higher tabs. Now we have excise taxes levied by local jurisdictions and tabs are now up around $60 or even higher. We also have the highest gas taxes in the nation. Other states that have low fees for license tabs probably have higher property taxes, a state income tax, a local sales tax and on and on.

Our property taxes are not extreme and we don't have a state income tax. Don't want to make those wealthy guys pay...whoops, starting to rant.

Don't come to Colorado. Seriously don't. 2014 GMC Sierra plates were $776. 2014 25FC, sit down now, I'm warning ya. $1,004. Told you to sit down. Plate itself is $114/$59 Sierra/FC. The rest is Owners Tax (velorum), Road Fee and Bridge Fee. Owner's tax is a percentage. I just cringe when I think of someone with a Newmar Class A in the 1/2mil range.

The Owner's tax was supposed to be temporary for 5 years back in the Gov Ritter days. Yeah right.... Its a percentage of the price and slowly goes down over 10 years and then levels out but never, never, ever goes away.

Run Forest Run....

In Missouri it's $11 annually.....but we all get hit by a personal property tax each year. It's much like a real estate tax where each governmental agency gets their cut. So for all intents my vehicles and Airstream are valued and then taxed on 1/3 of their assessed valuation. Usually NADA guides are used. We use an honor system each year to report the vehicles we own at year end. How they enforce you to declare is by checking your tax receipt when you renew your license plates. If your vehicle isn't listed on the personal property tax receipt, you can't get plates. Technically as the vehicles age, your tax is reduced since the vehicles depreciate.

Texas plates are weight based. Trailer was about $65 plus the newly required annual inspection of $14.50.
Truck and cars about the same $60-75 range. Not bad, don't have to pay value tax. No state income tax either. We still have Blue Laws on the books though. No buying adult beverages before noon on Sunday's at the grocery store. No complaints.

I put a permanent place on my trailers. The AS was $100. The boat and utility trailers were $50.

The picture isn't complete with the question. What you don't pay in personal property tax, you pay in real property tax.

AS = $53
TV = $102
House = 3.5% of it's likely true market value. All, per year.

You do the math.

Idaho:

2014 FC 20' for 2016 was $185

1974 Argosy 20' for 2016 was $15

The cost decreases with age. I think $15 is the minimum.
