What that ugly old thing? LOL - Please read and comment

I have a store in NC, and I am selling an Airstream Overlander.
Today I was on the phone speaking with a buyer, (it sold today),
and when I got off the phone, a customer that had overheard me, said "did you sell it?"
I said yes, then another (nosey) customer, that didn't know what we were talking about, said , "what did you sell?",
I pointed to the Airstream out the window and said, "the Airstream outside".
She laughed and said (seriously)

"That ugly old thing",

I said

"No not you, that aluminum trailer outside"

she stormed out angry
Can you belive how rude she was?

What is the dumbest thing anyone ever said to you about an Airsteam?

Thumbs up A Lid for every pot...

May not have been too good for business but who wants hers anyway?
I could only hope that I'd be that quick on my feet if I heard anyone make a comment like that about an Airstream!
I saw a guy with an Airstream at a campground. I said Hi and that we had an AS too. Told him it was a '67 Caravel.
He made a face and said, "Oh. Well, if it works for you."
Yes! It does.

Well, ahem, cough cough... Well, those of us with BEHEMOTH Airstreams that you can hear depreciating whenever they're near can always look down our noses at folks who had the uncommon poor taste to buy cute, restorable small coaches that appreciate every day. So THERE, Heidi, take THAT!

A lady at a campground last year in PA was surprised I was talking to her, and told me so. When I asked why she stated, "I was told people who own Airstreams only talk to other Airstream people". I told her that I never heard of that before. She told me they used to own an Argosy, and were shunned by other Airstream owners. Weird.

Some of the old timers did not want the Argosy trailers in the club. They just were not "Airstream" enough. Now they welcome anyone who will pay the dues and are happy to see ANY Airstream product. My how the times have changed.

I say be freindly all the time. Someday it will come back in spades.

I was surprised to find this little quip while reading Phred's Poop Sheet on Sewage Issues

Quote:
(I shouldn't put this in here, but I can't resist it) There's an old RVer joke: If you're ever faced with an insurmountable poop problem, consider getting an "Airstream" -- because, as any Airstream owner will tell you, "their s**t don't stink."
I didn't realize we had such a reputation among the SOBs. Of course, maybe that's partly because we call them all SOBs...

I LOVE it! I hope you didn't straighten them out... we Airstreamers DO have our image to uphold...

Years ago (late 80s), I recall hearing someone talke about how "someone in an Airstream motorhome pulled in to a campground, levelled their coach from inside (the ultimate luxury then) and didn't even get out of their coach to say hello to anyone. The next morning they drove off without coming out. No one ever saw them. They MUST have been pretty snooty!"

I laugh every time I think of that story; particularly now that I've had a 325! It sure shows how folks draw their own conclusions about things regardless of the facts. It's even more amusing considering the huge range of folks and their interests who also share an interest in Airstreams.

Thumbs up Yet another side..

Recently, I brought my A/S back to NH from VA for a Rally..Since then, it's been parked on the same site while I'm working on "polishing" it.. I can't begin to tell you how many times people stop by to comment on how nice it looks, etc..

The thing that really shocks them is;

When I mention how old it really is..lol

No snobs here..Justa happy camper~!

ciao

Not everyone likes Airstreams

When I told a friend of mine, an older gentleman, I was getting an Airstream, he replied, "Do they still make them? I always thought they were so ugly and old fashioned looking"

I also mentioned that I was buying one to a lady from work, who loves camping in her SOB camper, and she said, “ewww, I never liked them…they look junky to me”

So I guess not everyone cares for them. Cool with me!

I don't know about Airstream people being aloof--as we all know it is bad to make generalizations. I wish someone would do a study of Airstream owners......as a group I would guess they are generally older, better educated, and possibly more "engineering" aware of rvs and vehicles in general.

I think the cost of Airstreams is largely the reason for some of the above "attributes" and restoration takes a certain mind-type.

I thought the reason no one came visiting at the campground was the 2 dogs, 3 kids, bikes, tents, friends, ect. From what you are saying, they think I am too good to talk to them : )

Maybe the reason was that HUGE beer keg on wheels in the background?

Not sure about were you are from, but around here, a giant keg of beer is not the way to go if you want to drive people away!
